I've thought this for a very long time, but his recent appearance on The Late Late show confirmed it for me.

Mike Murphy is one of the most personable presenters we have ever had. And he hasn't lost any of his wit, integrity or charm.

Ryan Tubridy on the other hand has let his ego grow way too fast and RTE have put him in a position that he doesn't have the experience to justify. I'm not going to go overboard slagging the man, but I don't think he has made the late late chair his own...

    Like Mike Murphy could.

RTE....Give the late late show to Mike Murphy, and for once justify a small percentage of our licence fee.

Oh dear God no. I can't stand him, he is well past it at this stage.

Leave Tubridy alone, he's better than Pat the plank and that arrogant muppet Gay Byrne.

You obviously didn't watch Winning streak when Mike Murphy was presenter, awful.

Here's a wild idea. Why not just scrap the Late Late??

Can we not use our power to get rid of the late late altogether so?

Kenny was wasted on the Late Late. See him pwning Grey Mitchell on the Frontline debate? That's his true arena.

    Ooooooh That Pat Panache!

Tubridy is a third rate Conan O'Brien wannabe.

I dunno, but there are quite a few idiots who start threads to air their retarded suggestions in AH.

    It'd be MEGA!

Grainne Seoige should be given the job. She's the only one in RTE with even an ounce of presenting talent. Getting her to present lame talent and sports quiz shows is a joke. At least she can strike a decent balance between serious and lighthearted, something Tubridy struggles with, what doesn't he struggle with though. Dustin would do a better job of hosting the bloody thing.

True! Kenny is at home with the likes of Grey Mitchell because he has no personality whatsoever, and I would of said Mitchell pwned him the other night, Kenny went red as a tomato when he was been shouted down.

Here's an idea , why don't we petition Sky and UPC to provide a package that excludes RTE, this could then be the starting point to changing the laws that force a tax on people to pay Ryan, Pat, etc their extraordainary salaries.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,973 ✭✭✭RayM

Ryan Tubridy on the other hand has let his ego grow way too fast and RTE have put him in a position that he doesn't have the experience to justify.

It's nothing to do with inexperience. Gay Byrne was only 28 when he first presented the Late Late. No amount of experience would make Tubridy any good at presenting that kind of programme.

The guests are generally crap too, so it's not all his fault.

Turbidy and gay byrne are better presenters than pat kenny was on the late late. Late late not great though, think the saturday night show suited turbidy better and that pat kenny is suited to the frontline he too serious and a bore. I like turbidy and gay byrne they make things fun yet serious.

The title/purpose of this thread is ridiculous.

So we should pay a 70 year old ex Montrose grandee a large six figure sum at the licence payers expense just because he lost his shirt in the property bubble?

RTE is incestuous enough, it needs new blood not RTE stars interviewing other RTE stars to plug their new book, Joe Duufy and Marian Finucane just to mention the past week!

How about we give somebody more deserving a job.

    Sean Moncrieff's greatest talents are:

    a. He's witty as feck.
    b. He's knowledgable as hell.
    c. He has the ability to switch from serious, to funny and back to serious again.

    c. is a particular requisite for a show like The Late Late.

Sean Moncrieff is the best presenter on radio in the whole country. By a mile.

I reckon he should be given another chance on television. Whether or not he wants it though is another thing.

Nobody in RTE is worth more than about 200K a year.

Infacta I think they should pass a law that states nobody who gets paid from the public purse should receive more than 5 x the avg industrial wage.

He maybe but this is the problem with RTE what it needs is a new format with new talent, not the same show with the same 70s talent, so no I wouldn't support this boards campaign.

But if they insist on the same type of show. Although not a new talent, I think he has charm, he is funny, decent, intelligent, he can carry an interview and he is engaging, I like Sean Moncrief.

Maybe scramble rte, and let the ones that want it pay for it. Then let the pay they get reflect the interest.
