Layers in Lightroom?

Hi folks. Is it possible to create layers in LR? From a quick google it looks like you cannot. Anyone got any tips? Or maybe they know of some free software I could use? Cheers.

gimp.

free, and does most of the basic stuff photoshop can do - including layers.

loads of tutorials and videos on the interwebs, too.

i tried that before - it's painfully slow when LR ties to 'open it', kept freezing and crashing on me. either PS or gimp will do a better job - but if you've got nowt else it's worth a try i spose.
