    Is it illegal? Does the noise constitue a nuisance. Should garda be called

    I would inclined to think that using go-karts (with an engine) on any public road is illegal as they do not comply with the various requirements for motorised vehicles using a public road.

    Yes. It is likely that they would have to comply with the construction of vehicle regulations and have lights and things like that.

    Quad bikes and scramblers are the same. I remember in one estate a certain family were using a dirt bike scrambler one week, and the next week it disappeared after the Gardai were notified and checked it for tax and insurance.

    The karts would require tax , insurance and licensed drivers for a start , that we are talking about a housing estate is of no significance - still a public place.
    Can't comment on the noise aspect.
