Using CPU fan as a case fan

My Coolermaster 690 case allows me to put a single 80 *15mm fan at the back of the motherboard. I have an old AMD sempron lying around that is not getting any use. The fan is the perfect size. If I hook the fan up via Molex to my PSU, will it work ok? I'm afraid that I'll fry something.

The CPU fan probably doesn't use a molex connector, if it does I don't see why it wouldn't work? But my guess is it uses a CPU_Fan power connector

Yes, it uses that connector, but I have an adapter that will allow it to be powered by molex.

I don't see why it wouldn't work and I doubt it would cause any issues...

Yeah you shouldn't have any problem with that. You could also see if your motherboard has any free fan headers to attach it to so that you could also control the speed if needed. If you hook it up directly to the PSU via molex it will just run at full speed all the time which might be a bit loud depending on the fan.

Nope, all used up! I was thinking about getting a dedicated fan controller, but i really don't mind the noise at all. Thanks for your advice guys.
