Aldi are selling a mini satelite system for 80 euro.
I have never used satelite TV and what I wonder is if I installed the satelite TV would I still need to pay some company to get channels.
We watch very little TV (use internet more) but would be happy to get the main Uk channels.

It will only get the free channels, ie the main British channels, or foreign free channels if you point the dish at a different satellite.
But, beware, the dish is tiny and will most likely give reception problems in bad weather.
The receivers are usually ok, though.

Do you have a link OP? The one I found was from back at the end of August for 70euro http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_13878.htm

The dish on that one is too small, it won't work on a rainy day.

For a few quid more there are many suppliers of better quality DIY kits that will also give you the HD FTA channels. This is poor value obsolete stock IMHO.

There are hundreds of channels available ...... must admit I would not wish to watch quite a lot of them, but I guess some do :D

There are no payments to be made to receive those channels, after the initial layout for the dish, receiver and fitting.

B&Q had a HD Sat kit with USB for €79 two weeks ago. I would say shop around for something way better, for approx the same price.

The Aldi system only good for France, Germany (with local services) and at reduced functionality in SE UK.

    1) The dish is too small for here.
    2) It's not Freesat HD.

Avoid the B&Q only. At the minute only consider a Freesat HD model and if you live in an area with bad Digital Terrestrial reception make sure it does Diseqc so that come Dec 2011 / Feb 2012 you can get the 4 + (dregs) main Irish channels via "other channels".
