I was told maybe this is the forum for it, ive seen the doc i know all the options so not looking for medical advice just past experiences with therapies. I have bad anxiety on and off for about 3 years now, was on lustral and zanax for about a year then got pregnant and stopped taking all pills, the anxiety disappeared for the whole pregnancy then came back worse when baby was 3months, so came back about 3-4 weeks ago. went back on lustral, zanax and stilnoct to sleep it does not seem to be getting any better but i know the pills take time to work. basically i get most anxious about a plane crashing into my house! sounds funny i suppose but its really bad im constantly watching the skies! and panic when i see a plane! im not a depressed person its more of a fear of lots of things. i know pill are only short term does anyone have any suggestions as to the types of therapy that would stop the anxiety or make it stop all together!? im more afraid now that im a mother last thing i want is to pass on my irrational fears to my daughter, any advice / past experiences would be great to hear, also i got a letter in today with an appointment for a Councillor but its not till next march! has anyone had any experience with the hse am i wasting my time or should i save and see someone privately? (money is tight so not to sure if it would even be possible)

    Hi,
i dont know where your living but in dubin anyway, theres lots of organisations that offer free counselling services. Or where you leave a donation of whatever you can afford.
Imo counselling is the best option to deal wih issues such as this as it helps you to get to the root of the problem.
    Goof luck

Imo counselling is the best option to deal wih issues such as this as it helps you to get to the root of the problem, and therefore deal with whatever the issues are that are actually causing your anxiety.
    Good luck

I also suffer from anxiety. I went down the medication route for a number of years, but found that for me, they acted like a plaster and merely hid the anxiety. They did not deal with the root cause or solve anything.

I ended up coming off them as the ones I was on were banned as they were causing mildly anxious people to commit suicide. That scared the life out of me, as while I was depressed and very anxious at times, I was never suicidal. But these pills were not good for me at all. I didn't feel like myself.

For me, it has been a long road, but I can safely say that therapy/councilling was the start of my journey into understanding my anxiety and how I can live with it. She has helped me to develop coping strategies also.

Other things that helped me on a day to day basis were:
    - taking rescue remedy when I knew I would be facing a stressful situation
    - taking ginseng daily to help keep my energy levels up
    - regular exercise (took me a very long time to get into the habit of this, but it honestly does help)
    - taking a multivitamin supplement daily (this is to give my immune system a boost. I always feel a lot more anxious when I am under the weather)
    - healthy diet with lots of fruit and veg
    - writing really helps me too. I write down my fears/anger etc and then I burn them or tear them up. For me it is a great way of getting things out of my system.

Hope this helps and best of luck

Do you exercise regularly? If not, do! As anxiety symptoms have been shown to improve with regular exercise. It's definitely worth trying it :)
    Best of luck!

i went on the meds for about 12 months and then weaned off it and had cbt after, did me the worl of good, combated the major anxiety wen i had it, then the cbt after reinforced some positive taught patterns , and helped me understand where the anxiety was coming from. id reccommend both cbt and possibly a course of meds for a recommended (by ur GP) period of time. it worked wonders for me.!!
