FM and internet radio in mono? Does it matter?

    Hey all,

My universities radio station has a MW setup. We can not afford the license costs and are looking to take the system down and sell it.

Now, there is an audio processor in this setup which does 3 band compression and also automatic gain riding which is a great feature for us as some of the newbies can vary the levels a bit. If we employed this system we could set the equipment to keep the volume at a target.

Down side is that it is in mono so it would mean changing our current online stream from stereo to mono and if we are able to get FM going this year, that would be in mono too as we would place it between the mixing desk and encoding stage.

Is this a big deal? I was initially very excited by finding out we had this equipment but forcing us into mono broadcast is putting me off.

Any opinions? What would you do?

    Thanks all!
    bbk

I wouldn't see it as a big deal for broadcasting online. It would be nice to have stereo when you broadcast in FM but not essential. Go with what you have, it'll be fine.
