So the farce that is the 2011 Irish presidential election campaign is almost over and I for one will be glad to see the back of most of the contestants nominees. It got me thinking though, how bad is it going to be next time, and who will be throwing their hat into the ring? Here's my prediction.

    The Nominees

    Patrick Bartholomew Ahern
    Johnny Logan
    Gabriel Mary Byrne
    Amanda Brunker
    Brian Dowling
    Charlie Bird
    Dana

Our German overlords will have an "overseer" firmly ensconced in the Viceregal Lodge by that stage.

    Vote boardsie, vote Pep!

We would need to move the Aras to the Netherlands before good old Bono would consider the role, after all it would be unfair of us to expect him to pay tax in this country on his Presidential salary.

Seriously, Ivana Bacik. And I'd vote for her too.

Another serious contender would be Simon Coveney but maybe not because he mightn't want to leave Cork.

    Other possible candidates:

    Ryan Tubridy
    Jay Bourke
    Bono
    Ronan Keating
    Michael Flatley
    Joe Duffy
    Hector
    Daithi O'Se
    Grainne Seoighe
    Mick Wallace
    Ming Flanagan

I can't imagine Bono throwing his hat into the ring, he's far too busy and seems to be concentrating on his kids these days. Also he's in France at the moment checking in on Carla Bruni and the new baby.

Not a chance. She has failed at every single election she has been put before an Irish electorate for approval, even in the last General Election when Labour had a very succesful campaign and with her running mate, Eamon Gilmore, getting elected on the first count she still could not crawl across the finish line, managing somehow to finish below the unelected Fianna Fail candidate, Mary Hannifin.

For Labour to put her forward would be an even worse decision than Fine Gael nominating Gay Mitchell this time around. The only way she will be on the ballot paper in 2018 is if, for some weird reason, the Labour Party make the conscious decision that they don't want to win or to even come close to winning.

Sean Fitzpatrick as an 'independent' and Brendan Drumm I't say would through his name in the hate.

Just to even out the election Bertie may chance it. ;)
