New hot water cylinder insulation doesn't cover all of tank

We recently had a solar system installed. The installer took some of the insulation off the top to install the immersion.

He claims that the heat loss is negligible. I asked him to patch it up but it's factory fitted installation so he doesn't think that's possible.

I expected the cylinder to be completely insulated and hold heat overnight. Am I being unreasonable?

How much did he take off?

Is it just a few cm's of insulation? Somet times it's hard to get the spanner onto the immersion. There is a special box spanner for these.

Can you take a pic? If it's only a small bit the effect should be negligible.

Don't over think things, is it causing an issue?

It's about two cm around the immersion. It does look like it was because of the spanner he used. I thought it would be modular. Not requiring any of the insulation coming off.

Is there any way to patch it up?

You could stuff in some insulation if you want, but the amount missing is no big deal and nothing to worry about.

Missing insulation at the top of a thermal storage tank means a severe loss of energy.

    Could you post a picture?

Use something that has a slightly larger diameter than the immersion heater to give a bit of clearance and use spray foam insulation to repair the damage.
