    hi
Ok so i don't really know anything about cars, but i need a new one. My last car was a yaris but sold to me tape over engine warning light etc so nervous about getting a new one don't want to be ripped of again. I have 4-5,000 and i travel from dublin to navan everyday for work. I could be petrol or diesel i have no preference just that it is reliable. if i had the money I would love a mini cooper. So please any body if you could steer me in the right direction thanks xx

Fully inspect what you buy and if you're not confident, bring an accomplice that does. If you like what you see, test drove it and is tested then it really doesn't matter what you get. Many others will suggest different cars, see what you like and don't like. If minded, even the worst reputation cars will keep going (been there, done that :) )

I do the opposite commute every weekday, theres decent roads so theres little to go wrong :)

I would opt for a diesel car these days. Would love to get one myself if i could afford to run one, tax is high for most of them apart from the new cars. Volkswagons are a good diesel car, a Golf or Polo.

Petrol cars i'm thinking about buying a corolla at the mo. Cant beat a good toyota. :) If anyone knows of any Corollas for sale PM me.

    Best of luck! :)

Not my cup of tea but I hear no real issues with the Swift, apart from the diesel version being rare...

Different people different tastes. Theres nothing wrong with the car: its cheap to run, small enough for town driving but not too small for the bigger roads. Decent enough reliability, good service, for your price bracket you could pick up a 2006 example thats nctd with approx 40k miles, maybe a 2007 one with slightly higher mileage in a similar condition.

Why is it not my cup of tea? I get a kick out of buying sub €200 cars and doing them up to a roadworthy state, hence not my cup of tea :) I understand that not everyone has the opportunity to do their own servicing at home.

A car I would recommend though (after doing thinking some thinking) would be a mk 6 Ford Fiesta. 2004, 2005 and 2006 models fall into your price range. Another car thats cheap to run but with more parts widely available if something goes wrong :)

Should be able to pick up a 07 Suzuki Swift like this one:

They are a good and reliable car.

Whatever you do make sure to have it checked over by someone who knows their way around cars, preferably a mechanic.
