I bought a 645 off them when I used to have cash......had a prob with the steering rack. They honoured their warranty and I thought they were top notch re their dealings with me. Generally Im always giving out about places but a good experience I had here.

    + 1 on their expensiveness......
and make sure the car your looking at isn't an ex-rental. They sold(or used to) sell a lot of them from their sister co, Argus Rent-a-car, however, that business was sold off so it may be different these days. Worth checking.

I'm based in mid-west but bought my last car there (The one I wanted at the right price was not available this side of the country).
Clutch went after 2 weeks (Called out as an exception on the 6 month warranty). They arranged for a dealer down this side of the country, covered the towing, parts and labour costs. All I had to do was pick up the car a few days later.
I have no complaints about them and would by another car from them even if it meant travelling up to Dublin again.

Rathdown are obviously a very premium dealership, no crappy cars in there. I drive past them everyday and glance in:p

You might pay a bit more there than in another place, but the backup and service is great, piece of mind is worth the extra in my opinion.

One thing that annoyed me was that my mum went down to buy a two year old car there that she liked with a great spec at a good price and was talked into buying a brand new base model that cost the same by the sales guy (and has by now depreciated more than a second hand).

He was just doing his job in fairness.

I bought my Civic Type R off them a few months back and was very happy. I couldn't fault them at all. I wasn't the easiest customer in the world, went down 2 or 3 times for test drives, brought the old man with me and everything before I made up my mind. I had one or 2 little niggly problems which they sorted out without question, and they gave me a month old 1.4 Civic and arranged the insurance with my current insure while they had my car.

Even 3 months after buying my Civic from them, I still haven't found a 2008 model with similiar mileage for less than 2.5k more than I paid!

God, alot of very good reports here.
Sounds like they are very good to deal with. A warranty that is worth something is certainly worth paying for.

I've never dealt with them but the principal difference between a bricks and mortar dealer and a pre-fab dealer is usually that the warranty you get from a pre-fab dealer isn't worth the paper it's (not) written on.

We bought a couple of cars from them and found them both good and bad. Good in the fact that they usually took the car back for warranty work no bother (even though they didn't always fix the problem first time) and bad in the fact that they were trying to push their finance on us and got a bit narky when we declined.

I thought their service department was OK up until the point they broke something on the car when it was in. They were very tough to deal with over this and handed us a bill for 500 quid to fix damage that they caused.

I don't know whether it's different today (as the last time we bought a car off them was four years ago) but the quality of their non-franchise used stock is also never usually as good as you will find at the official main dealers. Our A4 Cabriolet had quite a tatty interior and was missing a couple of keys.

But you bought it anyway and now you get your revenge by bad mouthing them here. Surely the condition of the interior of a secondhand car is principally down to how the previous owner treated it? Did you expect Rathdown Motors to reupholster and recarpet the interior and then sell it to you at a loss?

Well all I know is it was passed on as a trade-in from Ballsbridge Motors, so it obviously wasn't up to that dealership's standards.

The car was three years old at the time and was the only one that could be found in the desired spec/colour combination. They also agreed to fix a good few of the things that were wrong (broken cupholder etc.) as part of the deal.

Take nothing for granted! Do your homework, get the car inspected and negotiate hard.
