Leicester sack Eriksson

A meeting was held with the club's Thai owners for several hours on Monday and it was decided to part company with the former England boss.
Eriksson's last match in charge was the 3-0 defeat to Millwall at the weekend which left Leicester in 13th position in the Championship, but just two points off the play-offs.
Leicester's owners, King Power, are understood to be unhappy with the return on a £10million summer spending spree as they target a return to the Premier League.
And as a result they have dismissed Eriksson, who only took charge on a two-year contract in October 2010.
    Shock

Former Leicester boss Martin O'Neill will be installed as a favourite to take charge at King Power Stadium, having left a successful first spell at the club in 2000.
The sacking at Leicester is a latest setback in English club football for Eriksson after parting company with Manchester City in 2008 and a bizarre spell at Notts County in 2009.
Derek Fazackerley, who worked as an assistant to Eriksson, will also leave Leicester and has ruled out staying on as a caretaker boss after implying the club have replacements lined up.
"I think the club have got that in hand," he told Sky Sports News. "They have got people in place and I think it is in good hands. I just wish them all the best for the future."
Asked how much of a shock the sacking had caused, Fazackerley said: "If you don't win football games when you should win football games, then it is no great shock.
"But obviously it is disappointing. But that's life."

Mad. Just thinking there about how being manager of the English national team is one of the worst jobs anyone could take. It kills careers stone dead just just look at the last two decades. Graham Taylor, Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan, Peter Taylor, Sven and Steve McLaren. All either managers at the top of their game, or at the least up and coming, when they took the job and all laughing stocks when they left whose career went down the toilet.

If West Ham lost tonight and Leicester won their next game they would be above West Ham and into top 5. I can only wish the worst of luck to owners who expect instant gratification. Yea, he spent money but so have West Ham. Once you spend the money it needs time and only time to reach fruition. The margin is so small this time of year in the table.

Was an interesting debate on the radio earlier about clubs having to give managers a minimum of 2 years in their contract.

With the amount he has spent, to only return 5 wins in 13 matches is deserving of dismissal. With the resources at hand and the salary he was commanding, he should have been doing alot better.

Its October, 3 points puts you from bottom half of the table into promotion places. No patience.

McClaren, after being dismissed by the English FA, went on to guide FC Twente to the league title for the first time in their history - how can you seriously say his career went down the toilet?

As a Leeds fan I'm delighted for Kasper Schmeichal.

Honestly Leicester should have been doing far better than they were doing. Most people predicted them to get promoted comfortably but they have looked far from comfortable. While it is harsh on Sven, he really should have been doing a lot better with the money and players at his disposal.

The man is a legend, how he continues to get these jobs and payoffs is beyond brilliant. He's what I aspire to be.

Denis O' Brien paying half his payoff when it comes to it.

I'm wondering how long it is before the papers start linking him with taking over from Steve Kean at Blackburn?

He was nearly Blackburn manager over a decade ago, in '96, but backed out of it at the last minute.

As a Rovers fan, I'd love to see an experienced manager come in and Eriksson didn't do a bad job at City.

I know they've spent a lot of money but a couple of positive results and they're right back in the mix. I understand that the owners want immediate success but this could be a massive gamble and could disrupt their season.

Can see Mark "look at me, look at me" Hughes or Roy Keane getting it.

Bit ridiculous it has to be said and shows how impatient the owners are - any successor will have to see this and wonder if it's worth the hassle

Yes Svens spending didn't bring results straight away but ffs it's early days yet and as has already been mentioned there's fúck all points in it between the middle of the table and the top

He's just been sacked as manager of Nottingham Forest. While winning with Twente was a good achievement, it's a massive step down for him. So much so that leaving them for a second tier English side was seen as a better option for him.

True, he was at Wolfsburg where he was sacked after nine months.

A poisoned chalice for sure. McClaren sorta redeemed himself at FC Twente, albeit in an inferior league.

For me it's a stupid move sacking Sven now. It's not like they were bottom of the table and he could well have turned things around given time. It's a knee-jerk reaction. They could at least have given him til Christmas.

He inherited a mess of a club

The style of play Sven was playing probably influenced the decision. From watching the recent Birmingham and Leicester match all Leicester did was play long ball. He had a narrow midfield without any wide men, and forced Nugent and Vassel out to the wings to collect the ball. It was a very ineffective style of play, Mills and Bamba were the only players I rated from that team after the game.

When you buy all those players they must be allowed settle and get to understand each other. I guess the owners think otherwise.

Again, i believe a manager should get a bit of time to turn it around though. People forget things like when he took over at City under Shinawatra, got the City team playing great stuff (including making it known to Richard Dunne that he wanted no hoofing) and doing the double over Manchester United playing some great stuff.

Everyone appreciates at this stage that the Championship is a tough division to get out of, sacking people so early into a season where only 3 or 4 points puts you 9/10 places higher is a bit of a cop out by owners imho. Any new manager going in there is now going to know the score with what he has to do and will adjust his compensation package accordingly if they want him.

Another big compensation package for Sven. Nice work if you can get it!

I've been told Lee Clarke has met with the owners to discuss the position.

Yeah but he had to go outside of England just to get a job! Why was this? Because he was turned into a clown by the English media!

The England manager's job isn't a poison chalice at all. It's pure poison!

Not much in way of fee's tho.

Keep in mind, Sven only took over in October so those before that date cant really be heaped on him imo.
