Probably a stupid question...

    But anyway...

When ordering a marriage cert from GRO, can you get one based on the details of one person, I think I've narrowed down a marriage record for my GGF, but I don't know my GGM's name, not even a first name, so can I order based on that?

I've a few other sets of couples that i've bits and pieces of information on, but if I could order a marriage cert based on the info from familysearch for one person it would help a lot..

It was reading this link that made me think it's possible to order with the info for one person https://www.familysearch.org/help/viewdocument?documentId=105684&sliceId=SAL_Public&userQuery=ireland

no such thing as stupid questions - just silly answers!

the answer to your question is yes - one name will do

If you post the details (name, year/qtr, district, volume & page) I can try to give you some possible bride's names..

In parallel with your marriage search I think it would be a good idea to take a step back first and search for some children - i.e. birth of your Gt-grandparent, or a sibling. A birth cert would confirm the couples names and occupation for the father and allow you to prove your connection to that possible marriage.

I've already searched and found a few possible matches, my mother also says her grandmothers name was catherine, but being one of those names it means there are a few variables... Plus i'm having trouble pinpointing any of their 3 daughters birth records for sure, have 3 strong possibles but all 3 have different addresses, with a mothers name of Catherine on 2, kate on another...

My GGF name was Daniel Shea/OShea, the O seems to come and go depending on moods, but my GM who was the oldest was born as far as we know now in 1913, I'm presuming this is all Cork but anything is possible really, I have suspected a possible Limerick link because in 1945 he's listed as a blacksmith and I found a Daniel O Shea in Limerick on the 1911 census

This is the marriage record I think might be his, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/MFLM-C3Y/p1
and I have found a match with a Catherine Walsh, walsh was the mothers maiden name in all 3 birth records I got too.. https://www.familysearch.org/search/recordDetails/show?uri=https://api.familysearch.org/records/pal:/MM9.1.r/MFLM-6ZM/p1

I meant to say too that i've no idea of where my GGF Daniel O shea came from, I do know he died when my mother was about 10 or 11 when he died so that would make it about 1955 or so and his wife my GGM was dead before then..
