go onto the revenue page you can put in the details and work out how much vat you need to pay before you even bring the car in that way you can consider are you saving much money if any at all. then if your still saving a few pound just get the uk reg checked to see if its crashed if not just snap up the car and drive it back :)

For the price of a flight and a ferry, you'd be as well off heading over to the UK and getting one yourself.

You'd have a way bigger selection to choose from, plus you're not giving a fella on this side of the water a profit on doing what you could do yourself!

Would there not be some issue with the amount of time being in the country and not VRT'd?

I presume these are private sellers so would the revenue accept that you've just bought the car and not be liable for tax penalties?

Basically seems like hassle that can be avoided by heading over yourself.

A knocked up invoice would stave off any trouble.

Looking at the second Avensis you linked, wheel rearings and ball joints on an Avensis with 118k miles ? Sounds like a lot of work for that mileage.

Neither have full service history noted on advert - this would be a must-have for me. One of the adverts mentions receipts for recent work but that isn't a service history.

I looked at a cheap but absolutely mint 08 Avensis D4D recently ... was coming for about 3500 stg ... but it had 173k miles on it. I didn't take it.

Only a registered motor dealer can legally sell a foreign reg. car, before selling he must pay VRT.

I have the exact same car and had to get the front wheel bearings replaced after 116K!

just a thought ,,but why dont u look up salvage yard websites in the uk .
a lot of the cars have very little damage and there easy fixes .
ive been to a few auctions over there and theres great value to be had .
ironically a lot of irish car dealers are over there too snapping up bargains destained for the irish market .the cynic in me wonders are they telling there clients about the cars history .
and at least with a car that was damages in d uk you can see the damage for yourself .

Know of a few A4s that came in like that, complete with haircuts etc and lads were queueing up to buy them
You'd be much safer just doing some homework, taking a cheap flight to the UK and driving back.
