Laptop Problem

    Hello all.

Have a new Toshiba L750 laptop.

Today it's developed an iritating problem which comes and goes.

I thought I'd hit something on the keyboard but I don't think so.

When I open Chrome, and click on any form of page to bring me to the next,it opens a new tab. For example,If I'm in After Hours and click on a new forum,it opens it in a new window, leaving AH open too.

By far the most annoying though is that the keyboard stops to work. I can't type anything, but it seems that the buttons get alternative functions, for example if I hit B it might open my photos or anything.

Anyone any idea what I can do to stop it happening again?

Hi, Your problem is with Google Chrome. While Chrome is open, try holding the shift key down for a few seconds. That should revert it to normal.

Thanks for the response. It hasn't come back yet but I thought it might be chrome, but when it occurred I opened up Explorer too and it was doing the same

    Same thing happened there.

Only worked after I turned her off.

    Anyone?

    Never thought of it, :o

But try this.. Download Malwarebytes, update it and run quick scan.

    Also try this Norman

Between the two of them, they might find something, which may be causing your problems.

Also worth trying is Spybot S&D (Direct Link)

Spybot S&D is very effective, but scan times take longer then the other two. If the other two find nothing, then i wouldn't bother running Spybot, unless i didn't mind it running in the background, or was going to leave the PC for a while.

If the other two find something, then definitely run Spybot.

I'm not sure this is your problem, but as far as i can make out, your Browsers are acting up? Like shortcuts being hit?

    I'll try them now.

It's not really the browsers messing up,it's the whole keyboard itself it seems. It just totally loses function, well the functions are swapped but can't type anything.

    How do you mean?

Is the keyboard set to the correct keyboard layout? Go to control panel > Keyboard and check that it is set set to English (Ireland)

Are you sure you haven't turned on any of the Function locks on the keyboard?

Could you give an example of what is happening? Sorry, but i'm not really getting what's happening..

Is function key pressed down? [Fn]

No it just comes and goes without hitting anything.

It hasn't happened in about two days.
First the keyboard doesn't work, where the functions get switched around.

Then when I click on a page in Chrome it opens in a new tab rather than in the same one

Sounds like your Ctrl button is stuck. If the new tab opens in the background and not the foreground its definitely this. Would explain why it's happening with IE too.

PS if it's a new window instead of tab its your shift button then.
