    Hi,

I have a tv with rabbit ears and can get RTE 1,2 and TV 3. The picture is always distorted due to the reception. If I get one of these and use it with the tv i.e connect t up will I get a clear reception on all the channels it qoutes to display i.e UTV, RTE etc

You need a satellite dish receive digital tv as well as the box receiver. Thats why this one is aimed at ex sky customers (already have a dish on the house).

    Thanks Bob,

I have a dish already from the prvious sky subscription. The sky box is hooked up to the tv downstarirs. Would I need to have it connected to the saorview box upstairs to get the signal?

You will not pick up RTE with that Box above. That is a satellite box for free to air reception only off Astra (where your existing dish is pointed). RTE isnt free to air on Astra.

You need a combo box. Massive thread below on it - Ferguson Ariva 120 HD Combo (€100). It does both Saorview off an aerial and the UK channels off satellite in one channel list on the one remote control on the one box. And yes your RTE (1,2 Tv3, 3e Tg4 and RTE News Now) signal will be massively enhanced by this box.

You may also require an attic or external aerial to improve reception. Rabbit ears aerials are prone to local interference.

I take it that he was talking about analogue from the 3 stations he quoted as receiving together with the use of the word distorted.

Any kind of half decent analogue signal that includes TV3 would lead me to believe a DVB-T recpetion should be a lot better.

The Triax 537 BUT I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. It has problems still.

Does it have to be Powercity ? Do you need a drop in shop ? Are you in Dublin or where ?

Satworld have a bricks and mortar shop in Aideen Place, Kimmage. They are selling the Ferguson Combo for €95.

Yes I knew he was referring to analogue but just making the poster aware if there are similar problems with DTT it could be down to the rabbit ears aerial.

Would this be a good buy do you think? I already get FTA tv downstairs with the old sky box and satellite dish on the roof so it would only be for getting a clear picture on the Saorview channels on the upstairs tv

Yes for €49, it is good value. When you see the quality of digital vs your current "distorted" analogue you will want it downstairs too. You will receive RTE1, RTEHD, Tv3, 3e, TG4, RTE News NOw and RTE+1 on it only. You need to connect it to an aerial.

I guarantee you that you will be impressed with the quality towards your current reception of RTEs etc that you may then consider the combo box to replace the old Sky box. The combo box does both without clunky Sky menus (most of which are disabled without subscription) which also allows you the ability to record. You should also be aware that the "distorted" old analogue will be switched off this time next year, for good, in favour of the new Digital Saorview .

A lot of people are discovering that the most of what you watch everyday is actually free to air on one box without paying the likes of sky.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but if I get this box do I just plug the cable from the doggy ears able into the back of the box and then connect the box to the TV (which I am not sure is HD) to get the mentioned channels such as RTE etc

Setup guides and video here - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/set-up-guidesvideos/

Connect via scart if no HDMI is available.
