Planing to buy a netbook which will only really be used for surfing the net, playing music/vids etc. Wont be using it for gameing.

Currently looking at two different netbooks, the Lenovo IdeaPad S205 & Lenovo ThinkPad X121e. Is it worthwhile spending the extra £50 considering I'll only be using it for surfing the net or will 2GB RAM be adequate?

those are called netbooks? They barely meet the battery life criteria. Hell I've seen 17" i5s with a 10 hour battery, those two are taking the piss. First thing I think about with a netbook: portability and battery life. I'd nearly suggest neither.

2gb is more than enough for browsing the web, yes.

I would also consider the Acer Aspire One. I met several people in China with this particular netbook and it is very nice looking, light, good price and has excellent battery life with the six cell battery, the best of any I saw. I went shopping with a friend for a netbook a few months ago and this is what we ended up with, the D255E if I recall correctly.

In my opinion it is a bit nicer than the Asus Eee PC which I also saw... it would however also be a good option. EDIT: the Asus that I saw were older models, those ones look very nice and the second one has the bigger screen also.

The Lenovos have excellent build quality and larger screens and resolution but mediocre battery life. They also tended to be a bit pricier than the competition.

Running Win7 on 2Gb is not advised.

    I get by just fine.

It all depends on what you need it to do. By the sounds of it the OP doesn't need it for anything too intensive so 2GB would be fine. Either way, RAM is cheap these days, you could buy a 4GB stick for not too much cash if you decided you needed the extra memory.
