Vertical strip of partially dead pixels

I started my laptop tonight to be greeted by a big vertical strip of partially dead pixels. It kind of hard to explain, they are still displaying the image, but greyer than suppose normal.

I've attached an image that might help understand the problem, sorry about the quality, was taken from my iPhone.

Since they are not completely dead, I was wondering if there is anything I can do to repair them myself?

P.S. The laptop wasn't dropped nor did anything hit the screen, it's in perfect nick albeit about 5 years old now.
