Hi....I can't believe this has happened but a warning light has come up on my dash less than 24 hours before my (second) test...on a Sunday!

It's a 04 VW Polo and the warning light is "EPC" - I googled to try and see what it could be and it said something about it being an electric fault, sure enough I checked all my lights and all three brake lights are gone. So it's obviously not a bulb because they all went together, could it be a fuse? From my googling I saw it could be something else, a "brake pedal position sensor"?

Does anyone have any experience of getting these fixed at short notice? Could it be something that would require a lot of time to fix? My test is at 2pm tomorrow...freaking out :( I don't have another car to do it in and it might be too short notice to get an instructor's car, plus I wouldn't be comfortable at all driving a car I'd never driven before for the test. Argh!

Cover it with a piece of black tape, the tester will be none the wiser.

    Good luck in you're test.

Ummm...but the brake lights are all out? They test them right at the start...

They will if the brake lights dont work, as they do a walk-around check before the test to check all lights.

Also it'd be extremely dangerous to drive without working brake lights

I'm going to go to a garage at 8am tomorrow, I just don't know if it's going to be something they'll be able to fix right away or not. And I'm supposed to be in work for 10. Sigh....terrible timing.

if you disconnect the battery for 5-10mins it should clear the cars memory or somethin' and turn off the light, but dont know about the brake lights!
its not a permanent fix as the light will more than likely come back on if there is something wrong with car, could come on again after a few minutes/hours/weeks..... Best of Luck!
