I'm looking to book flights to Jordan for stephen's day for 2 weeks as its the only time i can get away until next summer due to work. I worried about flight cancellations do around this time of year e.g. as of the last few years weather disruptions etc.
Just want to confirm with others before I book what are my options in relation to travel insurance/cancellations??
    - Will i be refunded if flights are cancelled for whatever reason?
    - what the best travel insurance out there ?

any input to these question would be appreciated
    thanks

If you are flying with an EU based airline you are guaranteed the choice of either a full refund of all tickets and taxes, or some onward transit to your destination. If you are more than a certain distance from home, you're also entitled to accommodation and food, and if you are required to stay for more than 2 hours beyond security after the original scheduled departure time, you are entitled to food vouchers.

If you are flying out of the EU with a non-EU-based airline, you have similar rights.

Just beware if you are flying out from Heathrow for example, especially if you are booked on two separate flights. A friend of mine was in Egypt last Christmas before the Arab spring uprising, he flew from Heathrow, however due to Snow Chaos in the UK his flight to London was cancelled and he missed his separate Aer Lingus flight by 3 days. He then had to book a new flight last minute costing him £200 and had an awful battle with his travel insurance but the Financial Ombudsman ruled in his favor eventually after fighting them over it.
