Hi having a bit of a problem with iMessage on my iPad, it's not sending to any of my contacts but if I send a message from my iPhone it works. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to work? As far as I can see all my settings are correct. Thanks.

Try sending it to email rather than phone number, works for me...

That being the case, turn it off and on again. Usually works.

You need to have the same email address on your iPad as you have on your iPhone

There is no need to have the same email address on iPad and iPhone; iPhone is identified by its phone number. The only reason for adding an email address or the same email address to iPhone is to receive the same iMessages on both devices.

OP is talking about sending, not receiving.

Did you set it up with an address that is in addition to your Apple ID? If so, it needs to be verified.

When you say to "any of my contacts" are you sending to contacts that you have already successfully sent an iMessage to using iPhone?

Please see my sticky Guide to iMessage at the top of this forum.

If you want to PM me your address I can test you. Have you sent one from your iPhone to the ID on the iPad?

By ID, I mean whichever email address you have set up to use with iMessage, be that your Apple ID or another.

Or you could simply try sending me one to the ID in my sig below.

hey culabula, my personal email address is the address I use for apple ID. Sent an imessage this morning to a friend from my iphone, the message sent but my friend says that the message came from my email address? There must be something wrong with my settings? Ill send you a message later if thats ok?

Nope, that is perfectly normal, according to the way you have set it up.

You clearly have set up to receive at more than one address -your phone number and your apple ID.

If you wish the messages to appear as coming from your phone number, then go to settings/messages, click on the receive at field and change the ID to the desired one.
