General nursing- ucd - clinical placements

    Hay im a 1st year student at UCD studying general nursing, im assigned to st.vincents for my clinical practice and i was just wondering do i get paid for it in first year? Does anyone know? Thanks guys :)

    No. Since the 4 year level 8 nursing degree came in a number of years ago student nurses don't get paid anymore for clinical placements, apart from in their final year where, at the moment, they get a €1600 net salary per month (for 36 weeks on the wards).

    However, a word of warning:

    "The HSE announced last December the phasing out of this payment. By 2015, student nurses will be working full-time for nothing, saving the HSE an estimated €32m per annum."

    All going well for you (if you don't have to repeat a year or take a year out for some reason) you will be in your final year before 2015 and earning something, but it probably won't be a much as what the final years on placement are getting up now. :(
