2 weeks ago my doc told me to stop for 6 weeks due to shin splints in one leg. It hurts to walk on.

I went out like a fool yesterday to run a few mile . I was bursting to get out.

regretting my actions deeply now. worse walking pain now.

    My question is.

Using ice and compression to aid healing.

How many times a day would one use ice to help healing.?

    Should I use a compression bandage 24hrs a day?

Wow thats a long time to be suffering from shin splints without them getting better.

I'd strongly suggest getting a second opinion from a doc/physio.

Sports Injury Clinic usually have good info on various injuries.

+1 on the advice from RQ. I would suggest going to a physio (helps if they run themselves) who can work on the offending leg.

I had shin splints last year and getting a good physio was key to getting to the root of the problem. They will give you advice on icing, exercises to help and whether to run or not.

thanks. I upped my training over the last month on the road. Im just back from Tesco and I can hardly walk now. Inside of shin bone 1/2 way down to ankle.

I did not think it was shinsplints TBH. Maybe it it. . The doctor said it within seconds of looking at me. I cant see how he diagnosed it so quick after poking my leg with his pencil . (still cost 50 euro).

The pain did disapear after the 2 weeks , but came back straight away after a slow run.

I think I will see someone else.

I guess keeping it wrapped and iced till then can only be a good thing.

Im thinking im going to miss my first 10k race on the 11th dec. Thats the really sore bit

+1 on going to see a specialist rather than a GP.
I did suffer from lower pain for quite a while and alongside the treatment I received, I ran on soft surfaces, avoided running downhill especially quickly and shortened my stride while I recovered.
