Playing for Crusaders alongside Sonny Bill Williams.

I think it'd be great. Re-juvinate him personally I'd say. He would increase respect levels for himself down in the SH too.

Has "Money Bill" resigned with the Crusaders yet, talk was he was moving to the North Island to be closer to his Family.

I dont think he needs to worry about respect in the SH, anyone who does not know him has been living under a rock, or a blow in League supporter...

    ya.

I'm just saying it would be a 'bonus' that his reputation would be enhanced even further than where it's at.

On a practical level it's never going to happen now, he's been talking recently about another 18 months for Leinster and Ireland hopefully signing off on a Lions tour.

A couple of years back he would have torn up the S14 imo, back when he had the extra bit of pace compared to now.

It'd cost him a fortune in back tax if he didn't finish his career in Ireland.

I'd prefer to see him stay where he is unless he wants to move down to Munster :)

bod could do a job anywhere even if he is in decline. a freak of nature the man is and he has performed on the biggest stage for 12 yrs on a personal level

    Maybe four years ago.

I think it would have suited Darcy as well.

Not going to happen and I fail to see why any Irish fan would want him to leave either

    he'd be broken in two

It's rare enough that people pick up major injuries playing tag.

    :D

If Quade Cooper wasn't broken in 2 I think BOD might be ok!

maybe 5yrs ago but he is too slow now and can't break the game line as well as he used to

    That's bloody blasphemy.

I never want to see BOD leave Leinster, even when he retires I want a hefty coaching contract offered to him.

Is it? 4 years ago D'arcy was injured but the season before that he was nominated for IRB 6 Nations Player of the tournament (before tries decided it). D'arcy was excellent in 2007 and could easily have run amuck in the Super 14 considering the lack of defence in that league.

I'd like to see him give it a shot over there. If anything it would force me to figure out what the hell is going on over there in the Super 15

I can't imagine BoD going down under for the end of his career after all he'd be risking losing out on a massive tax rebate but I'd love to see some of the best Northern Hemisphere players going down there to get a true comparison between the 2.

I don't understand anything about this tax rebate

I'm not a tax export, but I believe if you are in a special tax bracket of Sportsman you can nominate 3 years of when you paid tax in Ireland and claim that back once you retire in Ireland, if you finish your career in another country you can't claim it back.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,997 ✭✭✭Grimebox

Does that make you a tax import? :pac:

It's for 10 years as long as the player finishes in Ireland. It generally equates to approximately a couple years salary in a lump sum. It was brought into the Tax Consolidation Act to help athletes trying to begin a career after their sporting career ended. It's days could well be numbered, I would think, with the focus on increasing the revenue of the state.

It's a good idea generally as most rugby players and athletes in this country will never make huge money and a one time pay out allows them to retrain and prepare for a new career. However, the likes of BOD, who doesn't need it whatsoever, can avail of it too.

I reckon he'd fit well into a team like the Highlanders. Would be glad to see NZ franchises have 1 or 2 marquee players. SOB would be another who'd go well in the S15 I reckon. Tommy Bowe too.

Its 40% of the tax on income (not endorsements) paid during 10 years of the career but you have to finish in Ireland.

Someone I know put together an estimate of 400K as the amount that BOD could claim back. I don't really know if anyone would be willing to walk away from that type of lump sum.

Found and article on it by Frank Quinn here looks like it equates to ~1.5 years income for a player, I would assume that BoD would have had a few"big years" with bonuses from the Slam, Lions Tours and Heineken Cups, add in the fact that his wife is a successful actress in the UK and Ireland I would be very very very surprised if BoD was every to leave Leinster.

He would fit nicely as a backup for Kahui at the chiefs;)

I'm sure if we know it's contract renewal time then so too will the IRFU. If BOD ever really dreamed of playing in the SH then he needed to move around the time of his last contract.

He has too much to lose now, the tax rebate and the possibility of picking up a serious injury as he wont have the player management that the Irish lads are used to here. His body has taken some punishment and I'm not sure how it would cope with a constant weekly hammering.
