Are you satisfied Sean Gallagher is non-Fianna Fáil?

I was just wondering, seeing as Fianna Fáil are lambasted from a height on Boards on a daily basis, are those who are willing to vote for him while detesting what Fianna Fáil done to our country happy enough that he has distanced himself enough from the party for you to sleep soundly at night after voting for him?

I'm not to be honest. I think he was too long in the party ranks for him to be considered an independant candidate. Plus the fact that senior Fianna Fáil reps practically insisted their council members back Sean Gallagher during the presidential candidacy process while insisting they weren't "directly" backing a candidate proves it.

If this man gets into the Arás we're as backwards as we already know we are. I'd encourage those who are undecided to back Michael D. - some see him as a step backwards but I see him as a transparent candidate. We know exactly where he's coming from and he already knows the job and responsibilities of the post inside-out.

Don't let Gallagher's charm fool you, we were already charmed by Bertie and look where that got us.

No way, a fianna fail builder/developer who has had the backing and support of the party during the boom when fianna fail and their banking buddies were raping the country should never be considered anything less than poison.

Mary McAleese did a good job
    So did Paddy Hillary

I don't see party politics as relevant, I vote for the candidate I want and ignore the parties

What a funny posting. The great thing is that regardless of which of the 2 get into the Aras, it will be a win for FF anyway, as both were members of FF. Personally, I feel M Martin has got it spot on and no doubt his chosen person, ie Mr Gallagher, will perform well enough to get the park gig for the next 7 years. Just when the nobodys in irish politics thought FF were down and out, up they pop to win the prize pot. FF are back and with it the arrogance, what a kick in the guts to FG and their cohorts.

SG is steeped in fianna fail and should not be elected

I'll put it this way, the only thing stopping me from voting for Gallagher is his link to Fianna Fail.

No, I am not satisfied that Sean Gallagher is "non-Fianna Fail". However, unlike many posters here, I am willing to - shock horror - balance different issues, weigh them appropriately and come to a non-sensationalist conclusion. Seemingly a lot of people find the whole non-sensationalist thing a bit difficult.

This recent furore about Gallagher reminds me of the attitudes of people here in the run up to general election. People were willing to vote for parties that would clearly collapse the country economically just so as to not vote Fianna Fail - a classic case of cutting of one's nose to spite one's face.

So, let's look at a situation where SG and MDH, as president, need to make an informed decision on something that needs to be signed into legislation. Who do you think would utilise their ability to address the Dáil sooner?

Gallagher is promoting a positive message but I just feel duped when listening to him. Michael D. readily admits his association with FF all them years ago (when the party actually stood for something apart from themselves) as opposed to Gallagher who dodges questions about his affiliation with the party at every opportunity. Gallagher just makes me vomit - not because of his big business background but because he has no backbone to stand by what he believes in (in the case of Fianna Fáil it is himself).

He distanced himself away from his 15 year association with a party which fcuked up this country out of convenience rather than anything meaningful! If he knew more about the presidency rather than how to manipulate people I'd give him some creedence - we're just being fooled like we were with Bertie and we can't see it!

Gallagher is definitely FF, but the main issue with him is the lack of transparency and honesty from the man, i don't like the way it comes across that we'd lap it up and vote him in...even McGuinness has been more honest about his background

I agree with your points about SG but we differ on the MMG opinion.
If I can't trust someone to tell the truth about their background then I wouldn't vote for them.
    For that reason, I'm out!

Of course he is FF and still FF. His resignation letter in January 2011 was just a resignation from the parties executive. Therefore he is still a party member, as he stipulated he was not leaving the party in the letter and launched the election campaigns of several other members of the traitors party (FF).
