Got an electrical problem with 2004 passat TDI,
the electric windows and mirrors do not work all the time along with the central locking all on the masterswitch.

when i try to lock/unlock the doors from the button on the main master switch only the drivers door will work and when the other 3 electric windows will not( but all will work on their own switch)
The drivers windows will then at times not work at all..

then if you turn car off and wait 10-20 minutes you sometimes hear a click and all ellectrics work again..

the remote central locking is working ok

    anyone able to help please

The master switches tend to break after a while. Taking it out and cleaning the contacts may help for a while. You'll need a torx T8 bit to disassemble the switch itself to get at the contacts.

If you are having trouble with the central locking it may be worth checking the electronics in the locks too. In older models in particular (pre-2000) the solder joints in the modules crack and the system can misbehave in very strange and unpredictable ways. VW took steps to improve reliability in the 2000 facelift, but it may still be an issue.

Getting the car scanned with diagnostics may help pinpoint the source of the problems.

That said, if it's all working on the other controls, then it's probably just the master switch.

OK cleaned it this morning and worked but then later give up again
its the centrel locking button on the masterswitch that stops and will only work on the drivers doors when this happens,

very strange but when the c/l and the electric window do stop the electric mirrors doesnt work either as well and its a completely separate switch

    thanks

Feel under your carpets in the passenger footwell. All these things are controlled by the CCM under here. If its wet the wiring loom and CCM may have water damage. Hope not though as its bloody costly to fix.

yes this was wet but the box inside is perfectly dry with no corrosion.
the holes around the battery holder were cloggied but i cleaned them out.

if this was damaged surely the electrics would not work at all?

    thanks

Could be water shorting out the wiring connector. Get a can of contact cleaner and spray it into both sides of the connector. Then find out where the water is coming from. I seem to recall blocked sunroof drains being one possible cause.

Drainage hole under the battery can become clogged with debris (especially during autum with falling leaves)

It then backs up through the pollen filter and finds a nice resting spot in your footwell.

Few videos on You Tube about how to clear this

just wondering for any Passat owners here, do ye find the windscreen wipers to be a bit underpowered? I'm just wondering whether I have a slight problem with mine or is it a general thing. They work fine but in very heavy rain, I just don't feel that they are as fast as other cars.

Common Passat/A4/A6/Superb problem, check the wiring near the CCM and behind the trim on the left footwell, look out for bad joints(nodes) where several wires join together. If they are gone green with corrosion strip them out and redo the joints and all will be well. Lots of info on the net about this. One of the best forums is Superb 1 on Briskoda as it it has less of the BS.
