long time suffer or general anxiety, and every time i have a night out, im depressed as hell the next day, i get all jumpy and my anxiety is magnified 10 fold than what it would be usually. I do be soo shaken i think im gonna have a mental breakdown, and end up in the physe ward sometimes.

Im thinking of giving up all stimulants altogether. fags, caffine, sweets, to help with the anxiety.

Has anyone else kicked the drink to help with your mental health??

Hi there, I have often thought about giving up drinking too for sort of similar reasons although maybe not to the same extent as you. I think what helps me to relax a bit and to stop my mind racing is to go out for a run or for a swim and I feel so much better afterwards.

I don't know if exercise would help but it definitely helps me. Best of luck with giving up the booze, I hope it works out well for you. Just have faith in yourself that you can do it :)

well Im only a social drinker and not an alcoholic or anything (no near it) but any time i do drink, it really plays havoc with my anxiety, mental well being, and my emotions.. really very badly. If I go out and have 5 pints on a night out, i may not be right for up to three days after, and act like a bit of a recluse, afraid to go outside and tackle ordinary day stuff like doing the groceries in the supermarket. i become very unsteady...

Im really thinking of giving it a miss in the long term.

I do a good bit of running as well so i may just focus more on that instead.

Sorry about the random babbling but ive really no one to talk to about this and was wondering other ppl's experiences with this and if they found any noticeable improvement with their anxiety and depression from kicking it..

I had serious mental health issues all amplified when i drank on a night out. So much so that i made an almost successful attempt on my life and woke up out of a coma in ICU a number of days later.

I gave up the drink on a friends advice - i also gave up the pub lifestyle and changed that part of my living habits. The people i hung around with it turns out were only drinking buddies and i didn't lose out. I don't regret the change and it definately helped me. I hope it helps you as much as it did me.

I have suffered with mental health for years and can relate to you. I used to drink too much when I went out and I would suffer the next day. All my problems would be magnified 100%. I just quit drinking one day when I knew I couldn't deal with it anymore.
What I have found is true friends will respect you for doing it and I think you will definitely reap the benefits of giving up the drink!

    Good luck

if you are an anxious person giving up alcohol is a great idea you will still suffer from being anxious the odd time but the magnifying effect will be gone. alcohol really does not suit anyone. if it changes your behaviour or mood radically i think you should avoid.

    try it and see.
