Myself and my father won the local vermin competition again this year. Our total was 48 foxes, 157 magpies, and 8 mink. I have pictures of it all that I'll put up later on. I'm typing this on the iPhone so I can't upload them until I get home to use my laptop

Well done what was the prize?

First prize is €200, plus a small trophy and you get to keep a perennial trophy with your name and the year you won it until the next count. Prizes are handed out on Nov 1st at the weigh in for the pheasants. This is our second year in a row winning it. Here's hoping for the hat trick next year:D

Well done there's entire clubs that wouldn't hand in that much. Our club has only started taking vermin seriously for the last two years and difference it has made is unbelievable. Between getting more land and a notable increase in game it's vital that clubs do take it seriously. Great to see your club give prizes and trophys for it as it keeps the members interested and encourages more competition. Well done again

This particular competition has been running for only three years now, and the feedback from all members is that there is a hell of a lot more game than there used to be, and the local farmers are a lot happier to have less vermin around too. These days when you'd meet landowners, they'll say "hey there's a master cock pheasant hangin round my place" or "there's a few duck flyin into the pond at the bottom of my place, why don't you call over for a shot some evening". So apart from a few local anti's everyone is a lot happier

fair play a lot of hours hunting gone into getting that sort of bag i was at the vermin count in my area when you see gun clubs returning 600 fox tails 400 magpies and so on makes you wonder whats going on :rolleyes:. I shoot foxes and spend a lot of time on them and have shot around the 180ish for 10 months plus the mags and grey crows but seldom pick up the winged vermin as there dont be much left with centre fire rifles nice to see a good honest report

Get yourself a good Larsen Trap - bags of magpies to be had this way in town and country settings:D;)
