    Hi

I have just sold my car privately and it is being collected tomorrow. Leaving things to the last minute as I tend to do I realise that I have lost the ownership cert. I know that I can get an application for replacement documents form (RF134) but I want to know if there is another form that I can also use to get the ownership transferred to the new owner without the replacement coming to me first.

It will work out much easier (and quicker) if you just apply for a replacement cert, and then do the transfer of ownership. You can give the buyer a receipt of some sort when they collect the car.
However, if I was the buyer I would be very wary of buying a car without a VLC.
Also you would be leaving yourself open to any unpaid Tolls, speeding fines, etc incurred by the buyer.
Not much help I admit, but as I said both buyer and seller shoud be careful when selling without a VLC.
If the buyer is willing to wait for a week or two (maybe a small drop in the agreed price would help) before collecting the car, then this would probably be the better solution.

There is a way for the buyer to obtain the new VLC but it does involve a lot of hassle, and form filling, on their part. They would really want this particular car to go through the hassle themselves.

    No easy way really.

You get a replacement "Vehicle Registration Cert" form from your local motor tax office. I think they charge €12. You will then receive the replacement VRC in less than a week. You and the new owner then fill in the change of ownership section on the back of the VRC and you the seller post it off to Shannon. The new owner then will receive a new VRC in the post in about 2 or 3 weeks time.

The other option is more taxing and involves the new owner getting the Guards/Peace Commissioner to sign/stamp forms, etc.

similar situation im in..... bought the car through my uncle off a nephew of his. log book posted off 26th september (apparently)..... shannon never recieved it now i have to go get a form stamped in a main dealer verifying the chassis number fill in the sellers name and address (which i dont know as he aint in the country anymore) then a peace commisioner/solicitor has to stamp it and finally i can post it off myself to shannon.

wonder wat the garda would say if im stopped driving it on the way to the garage to get it stamped as there is no tax on it since may 2010?

Probably something like "Under section blah blah of the Road Traffic Act blah blah greater than 2 months blah blah blah seizing your vehicle blah blah blah. Now gimme your keys."

Can't you trailer the car there or get the dealer to come out to you. Won't be cheap (dealer needs paying for his time) but should be a lot cheaper than a fine, and impound fees :D
