As above folks i have this car,it went down today in the NCT on just a front shock,,,,happy enough with test,,,Anyway my question is on sourceing a new shock all suppliers are asking me if the car has Electronic Suspension, this makes a difference on the Parts listed for the shock....So would anyone know if this model has it or not,,the shock looks the same to me as normal.
If it makes any difference it has a (S)SPORTS BUTTON and a normal button on the gear console, but im assumeing thats to switch to sports box mode for the gearbox,,, By the way its a automatic,,thanks

I'd be very surprised if an S280 of that age had adjustable dampers, AFAIK it was an expensive option at the time. Can you get a part number off the current shock?

Does it has S and W buttons on gearbox? If so, they are just Summer and Winter modes according to manual and nothing to do with sport. In Winter mode (W) car will start drive from 2nd gear to prevent wheel spin where in Summer mode (S) as normal, from first gear.
I had the W140 with 3.2 l engine and she had regular shocks. I would be surprised if S280 was fitted with electronic ones but then again, its Mercedes and any engine version could be assambled individually.

Nice motor, what mpg do you get out of it?
Id say 99% as a previous poster said its a standard shock.
Air suspension is standard on the 99 on S class though.

You could always ring mercedes to price new ones and get as much info out of them as possible.

That^^^^^ is worthwhile idea. ask a mercedes parts department to price it, they'll have to find out which version it is anyway.

If there even are vastly different versions. Even if you can't tell them, they can probbaly check from the chassis number

Only just acquired it so have no idea about MPG,,,,,,,,,,,,,,But with a wild guess id say it will be a bitch,,but its only a toy for me so wont be doing much mileage in it anyway,,,,,77,000miles on her from new and its spotless,,,These are some amount of car for smallish moneys,,,the tax will be a killer though,,,
