Hi guys! I was wondering, what is the procedure to forming a society in UCD?
    Thanks

You have to take it to the President of UCD in a dossier... enclosing notes in it will help your case.

Pretty sure there's a moratorium on new societies, theres too many of them as is so the money is getting tight.

What kind of society are you looking into forming?

So basically you have to make the dossier of what your society would do and then you have to collect like 30 signatures (around that not too difficult) and put in your application. Then in May or June you have to a presentation to Butler and the currents Ents officer.

You also need a UCC staff member to back you up to sign for cheques and such for the bank account, you'll need to have your first years events planned and it would really help if you do one or two mini events this year to show that there's interest in the Soc.

Also you won't get any money from the UCC societies council for two years until you're approved as an official society.

Sorry if this isn't exactly coherent but it was over a year ago when I helped set up FADS, plus I'm not in the college anymore. However I can say that there was four potential societies applying and we were the only one who got it.

I tried along with 3 mates to start up a Paintball Soc in UCD. Started in October 2009, we were turned down finally in February or so of this year. There is a blanket ban on new societies unless your really lucky (i.e. Dance Soc were approved, we weren't. Makes no odd's to me, just saying)

We were turned down because we couldn't offer anything "on campus" which really begs the question what some clubs and societies who need specialist kit do i.e. Large amounts of Water or Mountains get away with it. We had more than the required signatures, in their own words one of the best applications on record and were still turned down.

By the way, you'd be sending any application to Richard Butler in the Student Centre, he deals with all Soc's etc.

Well climbing have the wall in the Sports Centre, though watersports don't really do stuff - it's possibly Clubs are bound by a different rule for that to Socs?
