Hello, first time posting in this forum i read the sticky at the top and couldn't find if my question would be answered. i recently bought a camera for my graduation present but its been stolen/lost along with my bike the bike is pretty worthless so ill let it slide but the camera i paid over 500 for. now i think it was stolen by a group of people who were calling to my house i was leaving my house at the time and told them nobody else was home so don't bother calling. when i came home later the bike was gone and the camera. My parents have contents cover on the house insurance am i covered as it was stolen from inside the house? i locked the door window was open. sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

It might be. Best thing to do is ring the insurance company and ask.

I'd imagine it will depend on the policy and if they stipulated prior to inacting the policy to list items of a certain value. Even then i'd expect that a €500 item wouldn't need to be listed separately and should be covered. The only real way of knowing is talking with your insurance company.

I know with my home insurance there's €X of unspecified items included.
We didn't request this, it was part of their 'standard' cover. so there's a good chance you have it too.

I would place a claim for both the Camera & Bike, as they were both stolen. It would mean that the value of the Bike would probably make up the excess of the claim & you would then get the value of the camera back.

As others have said, check with your insurance co.

But I had a DSLR, lens, laptop, video camera, 2 ipods and a few other bits and pieces stolen from a (locked) holiday apartment in Berlin a few years ago, and amazingly, it was all covered by my home insurance here in Ireland. Only the compact camera (the least expensive item) was specifically mentioned to the insurance company when we took out the policy.

I had receipts and boxes for everything, and a police report from Germany. They sent an assessor out to the house, and 2 weeks later sent a cheque for the full replacement value of everything (about €4300). I had my laptop backed up from the day before I went on holidays, so all I lost was the pics I took while out there.

But insurance policies change all the time (I notice I'm not covered in the event of a nuclear accident any more), so best to check with your insurer in advance.

Having read here about people having their gear stolen I phoned my Insurance company and named every item I have and added a little to cover any excess about (€150). Its worth it for peace of mind especially if you make your living from photography or are part time.

most house insurance companies will not cover it!!!
