    Morning,
Is it possible to get instant emails on Android?

I've a HTC and I cant see anyway of doing this without refreshing my gmail widget. Notifications do come through but it can take half an hour or longer.
Is there an app to improve this or is there something I'm simply doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you set up using the Gmail app?

I have both the gmail app and the email widget that is available for HTC, but neither are instant.

You have to set it to PUSH email in the frequency settings.

I have my gmail set up via the gmail app, and usually here the notification on it before it pops up on my computer. Have an exchange email on push and same thing.

Are you sure you have background sync set to on, and notifications on (they should be on by default)

In short you should be able to get push email, provided you have a signal

Its quicker now. Looks like it was something to do with the background sync.
The gmail app is now better as previously I had to press refresh to get my list of emails.
Thanks for all the replies lads.

My phone, over 3G, beeps for a new email arriving. Half a second later my Android tablet, over wifi, beeps for a new email arriving. A second later the Windows task bar Gmail notifier pops up with a summary of the email.

10 seconds or so later the desktop browser updates with the new email and I can actually read it in there.

Not changed any settings from default on any device, but they are all pretty instant for me.

With the pathetic battery life on the HTC (mine at least), why would you want push email, which would add insult to misery, in battery performance:mad:

Cause push is better for the battery then polling?

How so? For push to work, you have to leave either WiFi or mobile internet on all the time. These will eat battery, I find.

Well if you want to actually receive e-mails push is better then polling. The vast majority of people actually use their data-connection since its one the biggest points of these phones. if you have your data-connection turned off most of the time then push doesnt matter.

Why? Turn it off when you want, you'll get your email when you turn it back on. Push won't use any battery when you don't have a connection.

Polling, on the other hand, will wake up and check every x minutes, even when you don't have a connection
