For months, Panorama filmed Romanian beggars as they working the UK streets during last winter's snow, sleet and rain. The footage shown on tonight's Panorama - more than 100 hours of it - is like watching Oliver Twist for the 21st Century. The little girl, wearing a white headscarf, used a telephone box as a toilet and scavenged for food from McDonalds as she begged in all weathers.

The twist in the story was when Panorama followed them back to Romania, far from living in a shanty town, the same people begging on UK streets lived in what was described as mansions, outside their Romanian homes were UK registered BMW's and people carriers. The documentary showed children being groomed to beg at the early age of three. Panorama were trying to find out exactly who was gaining most from the beggars, as most of the earnings from Begging are said to go to the Boss.
