I got an Iphone in the past couple of weeks. When I go in to, say, check my emails I get a message about choosing a wi-fi network. The options that come up both have the 'locked' symbol beside them so I just press cancel and go ahead with the emails or whatever. But should I be using wi-fi for this? Is the way I'm doing it going to cost me a fortune? Am loving my iphone but I don't want it to fleece me !!!

The locked symbol means the network is password protected and you need to manually enter the password to connect to the network.
If you are not entering a password you must be getting your emails over 3g
    Wi-Fi costs nothing btw

If u are not connected to wifi, your data is being used.
Have u got a data bundle?

Are you on bill pay or PAYG?

I'm on bill pay (with O2). I just need to check what sort of package I'm on with them now.

be very careful with O2, their data allowances are next to useless on an iphone, you prob only have 150mb of data available

Most smartphone plans on o2 are 1gb.
You should be fine, if your in the house and have wifi, key in your passcode though to save on data and speed up browsing
