Bono is a prophet?

    Metro Herald

A primary school religion book is teaching children that our very own Bono is a prophet. This is perhaps a step down for the rock God, who page 11 of the Daily Mail describes as the ‘deity of Dalkey’. The singer’s rise to glory to his new status occurs in the fifth class religion book Alive-07 by Veritas. The book says: “Another example of the action of a modern day prophet is the work of U2’s Bono for the relief of the debt of poor countries to the world’s banks”.

This is what happens when a religion controls schools. It's one of the reasons why, despite all the evidence of it's crimes, the CCL will not be defeated any day soon. An organisation that can adapt and update it's bull**** by drawing on present day culture to tie into it's lies and iron Age superstitions is not going to be brought down easily.

    Shouldn't that be spelled 'profit'?

Stupid reference to make but hardly more than that. Can't see the article (not putting my email in, either) but am wondering about the context and how this was possibly jumped on while being a non-story.

Maybe this is Bono's way of stopping people from drawing satirical cartoons of him?

Well, he does talk roughly the same amount of crap as a certain book...

Well if he 'Stillhasn't found what he's looking for' and feels like it's 'The Last night on Earth' then we could be in for a bit of trouble.

    (I'll get my coat).

Bono is the only ray of hope in an otherwise bleak, and frankly, quite smelly world. A champion of the hatless, he has campaigned tirelessly throughout his life for the return of hats to their rightfull owners. Fought bravely those MONSTERS who seek to keep hats for themselves and thus exposing the hatless to a bit of cold.

What have you done for the hatless aye? let he who is without hats, throw the first...hat... at the..um...wall!

He could just have gone into haberdashery and saved us all a lot of trouble and money and dodgy music.

    She moves in mysterious ways...hehe

There are two issues here. 1) Our schools teaching our kids this tripe and 2) RCC making Bono a prophet.

    1)
The biggest problem is teaching it in schools, now that's an outrage and should be stopped. But it won't any time soon. Not until we get the stranglehold of the church off our schools and hospitals.

Great cancerous parasites do this. They attach themselves to important organs in the body so even when you find out it is a poisonous parasite, you can't remove it without also removing some of the good organ.

Until Ireland becomes a proper secular state, i will continue to tell all and sundry about these types of things. Basically, question everything, especially when concerning religion. Where to send my kid to school, well that's an issue i will have to deal with in a few years thankfully.

    2)
It's an outrage right? Not really. The Church tried to make Mother Theresa a saint but she's not a saint. Wasn't even catholic for crying out loud. Religions don't have the luxury of making crap up and then forcing people to believe it before they had a chance to question it, any more. Nor can they distort or destroy the facts to align with their dogma. (I love you internet) Let them do what they want.

    It's a perfect fit though.

A huge mouthpiece dictating to everyone about morals, ethics and what we should do with our money and lives. All while also being a hugely massive gigantic parisitic hypocrite who has not for some reason given all his own money to charity. Strange that. Preaching different to the actions you make. Where o where have i seen that before. It was a group i think.

He'll fit in just fine with the RCC. Probably make pope by 2020. The church could do with a revamp. It's marketing department have seen how successful the scientology freaks were with Tom.

I don't know if this will help. It's a short article.

This country has given over 90% of it's schools to a foreign religious state. They can program the minds of the young without challenge as they see fit. They adapt the popularity of culture and put the know side by side with the unknown to make them appear the same.

So are we going to completely ignore one of the definitions of the word "prophet" and hate on Bono?

Because i am good with that.

In all fairness.... as there is a world recession and that beautifull yacht has depreciated beyond belief... money allowing.. I would buy it except for lack of ....

It's a short article that tells us the book in question suggests there's a few different definitions of "prophet". One of them being someone who acts a bit like Jesus and helps the downtrodden. So a complete non-story in my book.

As a musician, Bono has produced some brilliant music, and as a campaigner has done infinitely more to help the downtrodden than I ever will. Yeah he's as rich as a nazi and has an ego the size of the planet - so what.

What disturbs me about that article is being reminded that children are peddled religion.

I would agree with all you said Dades, except the last bit - Bono is not commonly represented as a 'prophet' of any kind except to the 'Metro (something)' readership, or whatever journalist seems to think so ( nothing new there )....God love em! It seems to be somebodies personal opinion written down and sold in order to help unemployed people...like a 'personal blog' of sorts...

He's not the worst and not the best either, but yeah they had some really cool music too in the early days - I actually don't know exactly what drives him, but he has the opportunity...and will be judged according to the Metro and Daily Mail apparently!... how he handles it, and lot's of people will agree with both. Apart from the begrudgers who judge him by where he has his bank account and pays tax..blah blah blah..

The man is not a prophet, just a musician - somebody who made it and seems to think that changing the world involves rubbing shoulders only.

According to the Metro text above, the teacher notes in the Veritas book explain that a modern prophet is "someone who re-enacts what Jesus did."

Apart from the haircut maybe, I don't see Bono as a Jesus re-enactor.
Whats happening here is that the religious are trying to piggyback Jesus onto Bono's popularity.

I reckon Jesus has a bigger fan base to be honest.

Jesus' fan base wasn't very big until he died. I reckon when Bono dies he'll have way more fans. Just look at Amy Winehouse.

Imagine how big his legend would have been had he died at 27.:D

Jesus and Bono both rely on their earlier work; neither has done much in recent years. So it's a win-win situation for them to associate with each other now; there's no such thing as bad publicity in showbiz.

I'd say Bono didn't ask for the title. But he would fit into the False Prophet category.

Bono on Bono he's that self centred and full of himself he won't let Ally have a go.

I've always thought that a prophet would do more wiping out world hunger using their vast personal fortune, and less hiding in the Netherlands for tax reasons.

The same Bono who wanted to bypass construction laws so his U2 tower could have zero social housing units and does not pay tax in this country which could alleviate the homeless situation in a small way?

Yep, he is one to like profit.
