    Hi,

Anyone know if this one is happening in 2012. Early bird entries were already open this time last year. Hope it is - enjoyed it the last two years.

Thanks for that - had a look at the website and was afraid they might be in trouble with sponsorship - glad to hear it will be on. Will need a new motivation to get me out after DCM :)

Ah well was going to book the half this morning then realised it wouldn't be a good idea 4 weeks after a marathon. 10k might have been nice.

Wonder how many of that 90 haven't a clue what they've bought! :pac:

Chicken. 2 years ago I ran the Wexford half 3 weeks after the Connemara Ultra.

I nearly died on the hill at mile 5.

2 years ago I'd have done the same. I'm more sensible these days! :)

:( I didn't realise there was a quota and was going to log on last night but said I'd wait until this morning!

    Ah well.

    It is!

I'd have taken the marathon option myself but pretty sure a high % of people would have taken the 10K option and probably won't even do it. Ah well.

Last day of discounted entries today for anyone who's thinking of this. €5 off the half and €10 off the full marathon

I'm a little confused... Can anybody help... I've been lead to believe that the Kildare 1/2 was a hilly run

Apart from a drag into the curragh camp in the first mile or so and bit of one in kildare town and a couple of railway bridges its basically flat, defiantly wouldn't call it anywhere near hilly.

    Hi Folks,

Had a quick look at the KE full marathon route for this year.

Is the route on the website confirmed for the full marathon course? or is the permit still pending approval with the guards?

It looks like it's been changed a little since last year. The two railway bridges have been taken out of it in the last 5 miles :).

    Cheers.

    Thanks Oisin.

I have only done 1 marathon, so a lot to learn.

I am hoping to do 18 mile LSR, 9:30 pace, Saturday 9am,
Papal Cross Phoenix Pk, anyone interested?

Will tag along with other Boardsies , usually some of this gang do long runs on Saturdays ---

Just noticed there's a big change in the route between 13k and 19k mark, run that road a fair bit, little bit of a tester at the 15k mark but its very short. Seems to be a couple of small other changes but nothing to major. Kildare Marathon Route

Thanks ronnie.... Is that route drivable? Especially the 15k mark that you mentioned? How long is that part - one k or a half k? Of the whole marathon route, would you say that part is the worst part? Only my second marathon, and got burned badly on my first in clonakilty.... The hills there were just awful.

    Thanks
    Muppet man.

Its drivable alright, mostly on good roads, I wont be worried about hills on this one, hill at 15k 300m long or so, I wont be worrying about it at all, another hill at 22k, short again but steep enough, I'd take it easy going up this as the course is very fast from there on in, bit of an uphill drag for last couple of miles but its so slight you wouldn't notice and the wind is usually at your back pushing you home on that road. Will be nothing like what I heard Clonakily is like anyway, we dont do hills in kildare ;)

Thanks Ronnie - thats good to know... appreciate the tips :) I'll give it a drive in a couple of weeks. My LSR's are going well and I'm including some hard hill work, so hopefully I wont be caught out ;)

    Cheers

Just curious where you seen this, no mention of it on the website, does the discount apply to all 3 races??

    Tang,

I got an e-mail from active.com. The discount code is runkildare15 which I presume you enter when booking and the discount is applied then.

Thanks for the tip! I was going to register by post to avoid the €4 credit card fee but this discount more than covers that cost.

For anyone who has done this before, can I ask what the half mara route is like? Around what miles are the hills/drags? I've only done 2 half before, Enniscorthy and Waterford, I'm guessing it's not going to be as flat as Waterford and hoping it's not as hilly as Enniscorthy. I signed up a few months ago in preperation for the WVM in June.

350 it said in e-mail from organisers this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Muppet Man

    More than that I think....
To date, we are delighted to say that over 450 people are signed up to the Full Marathon, over 1300 have signed up to the Half Marathon and over 700 have signed up to complete The Curragh 10K. With just over 4 weeks to go we are well on our way to our expected 3500 total participants on the day.
