Just a word of caution. The alternator went on my Audi Allroad at around 150k miles. Not a big deal as it owed me nothing. My local mechanic gave me two options, a spurious make that he has fitted in the past which he's had no issues with or a Valeo branded OEM quality version. I went for the spurious version on his recommendation and the fact it was €200 cheaper.

After a month or so, I noticed that the lights were pulsing and the car was idling roughly. It had to be the alternator so it was eventually replaced for the Valeo version. I stumped up the extra €200, but luckily my mechanic swallowed the extra labour. Could have been worse, but was a lesson learned. I've 10k on the Valeo alternator with no issues.

It's such a big job to replace an alternator, it's not really worth skimping on something that could cost you big time in labour in the future.

A big job to replace an alternator? I think not. Depends on the car obviously but for the Op's car it would not be a big job.

Point still stands though, do it once and do it right.

    Buy cheap, buy twice.

It couldn't be done on my car (Audi Allroad) without removing front ala doing the timing belt. 3 hours labour in total.

I agree, different size job depending on the car.

OP, why don't you get it repaired? Parts for this alternator (Visteon) are now available to rebuilders, most places will turn it around the same day.

The two prices you mention are at extreme ends of the scale, there is no way in hell someone can sell you a decent version of that alternator for €100, similarily €240 is a bit high IMHO, last I checked Ford were 230 odd + VAT exchange.
