    Hi

Not sure if I am posting in the right forum so if not please feel free to move it to correct one.

on 7th October i had a MRI scan & the following monday my doctor rang me with the results, she advised me i had a large growth beside my spine and i would need to go for surgrey to have it removed and sent of for testing to see if it was benign or malignant - she said i would be in hosp for over a week and would be called as soon as possible, she said if i hadnt heard from the hosp within 2 days i was to get back on to her and she would get back on to them to see what was happening.
so anyway i automatically assusmed the worst and am very worried about it since. i made her aware of my fears on the phone when she gave me the news.
so by wednesday i had no calls from the hosp so i tried to call my doc but she didnt take or return my call, i called a few times wed and thur and got no call back , i tried to call her again a few times on Friday and it was the same storey and then again yesterday, i made numerous phone calls to her as i am so worried but she wont return any of my calls.
i just think given the news she gave me over the phone and how she said if i havent heard from the hosp within 2 days to get back on to her , then she couldnt even return my call, even if she just rang and said she had no news, all i wanted was her to acknowlege me

am i over reacting and expecting to much from my doctor?

    sorry for long winded post

Your doctor is giving you very uncaring and poor service.

Get on to the hospital yourself in the meantime and chase up that appointment. When your doctor finally gets around to calling you, let her know you're very disappointed she/he didn't keep their word at a time when you were very stressed.

I hope everything goes well, and when its over, I would find another doctor.

    Hey there messrs,

hopefully it will all be okay and will be over sooner rather than later

I find it shocking that your doctor would tell you news like that over the phone.
My doctor would ring and insist I go in to talk to her. That is the professional and caring way to treat your patient.
A doctor should always tell you news like that to your face so they can answer any questions and concerns you may have.

    Appalling behaviour.
I believe I would go down to her surgery and not leave the premises until I had all the facts and details.
At the very least, you should be given the name of the Surgeon who will be operating on your back so you can go visit them asap.
Best of luck with the operation OP.
Get yourself a new doctor asap.

I dont think you are overreacting at all op. your doctor sounds useless! I personally would gave worked myself into a fit of hysteria by now, definitely call into your clinic and demand to be seen. best of luck with the operation x

That seems to be very shoddy treatment from your GP. Like the poster above, any time anything has shown up, I've been called and told to come in to discuss and talked through everything.
And it's never been anything as serious as that! Usually low iron levels or something equally minor.
I'd go and request an appointment. And then change GP.

    What?

How else is the doctor supposed to inform someone? Carrier pigeons? Smoke signals? Telegram?

So the doctor has to inform someone that they need an operation. What is the doctor to do, call that person and say "I have the results of your tests. I need you to come in to see me as soon as possible!" .... leaving that person to go insane with worry for possibly days?
And why can't the doctor answer any question one might have over the phone?

People will always try to find some pathetic excuse to express outrage at something completely trivial.

I know I got a letter from my doc when I had an abnormal test result (wasn't anything serious thankfully).

OP your doc sounds awful, I'd agre going to the surgery and demanding an explanation might be the best course of action. I'd also look at lodging a formal complaint, maybe after your health issues have been sorted. All the best with the surgery :)

In defense of the doctor not everyone likes to go into the surgery/hospital to get news, I know that I hated it so I was very kindly rung with the results (at my request).

She should have contacted you at this stage though. Is there any way that you can see her in person?
