    and how many speed sessions do you actually run/do a week + what distance are you training for?
    Just curious about what runners do :)

    Currently stepping up from 5k/10k training to do a Half Marathon in Dec although regardless of this step up the mileage was always gonna be the same. Aim is roughly 80 mpw most weeks between now and December.

    In terms of sessions most the time I do 2 quality sessions a week however I am looking to adjust this to do 5 over a two week cycle (2 one week and 3 the next)

    Marathon training these days, so my training is
    3 x recovery runs, about 16 miles total
    1 x Medium Long Run, about 10 miles (though this sometimes gets squeezed if there's a race on the weekend)
    1 x club training session, 3-5 miles, different every week
    1 x long run, 15-20 miles

    Just finished my marathon program. Was running 65-75 mpw.
    1 Quality session (tempo run @15-21k pace, or intervals @5k pace).
    1 Long run (18-21 Miles, sometimes with PMP)
    1 Medium Long Run (12-15 miles).
    1 or 2 aerobic runs
    Couple of recovery runs, with or without strides.
    Wasn't enough. :)

    Now trying to build back up to 55-60 miles as soon as possible, without doing self-harm. :)

    2 recovery runs
    1 16miler, mainly MP
    1 21 mile LSR, often a progression run
    1 400m interval day with easy run to follow

    only 39m this week

    Mish mash of everything I've read even though I do pretty much the same each week which isnt ideal.

    Next year I'm going do to mile intervals more often and more progression LSRs.

    Worsening economy will allow more running time next year. Every cloud...

    Started tapering down for DCM this week but my training up until now consisted of:

    2 rest days
    I medium long run at the club at a fair clip usually 8-10 miles
    1 tempo run 4-6 miles
    2 recovery runs usually 6 miles
    1 long run, for this marathon cycle I've done up to 20 miles, and did 3 twenty milers.

    I would do this type of plan for most of the year just altering the mileage depending on the race, would also swap the medium long run sometimes for interval work if I'm aiming for shorter distance races.

    Currently training for a half marathon. 1 - 2 speed sessions per week. 40 - 50 mpw but trying to get that a bit higher in preparation for following P&D 55-70 for a spring marathon where I'd like to do the runs at a higher effort level than I do when I'm 'reaching' for the mileage.

    Rob De Castella used to train that way, and he wasn't exactly a bad runner. ;)

    Tue1.5 hr aerobic
    Wed 1 hr Hilly Fartlek
    Thu1.5 hr aerobic
    Fri I hr recovery/jog
    Saturday 2-2.5 hrs aerobic
    Sunday 1-1.5 hrs aerobic

    Building towards this. Plan is to cover the distance as fast as possible allowing for recovery and continuation of training. This is taken directly from Lydiards proposed conditioning phase for a marathon. Will keep doing it until 18 weeks out from a target Spring marathon. Will hold back slighly until i reach the allocated running time. Then try to increase speed week on week.

    Then it may be the Daniels plan/P and D plan. Substituting P and D fast longer runs for Daniles tempo sessions as the body feels. May also do 400s as my form responds well to these.

    I do 9 intervals with jog recovery.

    Unfortunately they're laps around various fields and football pitches so I haven't measured them precisely yet. Equally, I just run as fast as I possibly can and dont think about pace.

    Next year I'll sit down with the garmin and get a bit more scientific. :)

    Does Lydiard not advocate a 2 week cycle in this phase? I remember looking at his plans and there was a time trial every second week of 3000m-5000m and also some strides?

    I only mention it as even in the marathon conditioning phase there should be a bit more paced work just for leg turnover. Though depending on how you run the fartlek I suppose this could act as that stimulus

    I've followed jack daniels for the dublin marathon this year. Peak weekly milage of 50 with an average of around 40 - 45. Most of the quality sessions have some element of tempo running. The early phase is where speed is worked on. Will do 10k training over winter which will focus more on intervals and repeats with hopefully 2 sessions per week

    I did P&D 70 mile plan for the Berlin marathon. Running DCM as well, so being following a 5 week multiple marathon plan since. This week has been as follows:
    Sun 16 mile progressive
    Mon rest
    Tue 8m general aerobic
    Wed 5 mile recovery
    Thurs 9m vo2 max 3x1m @ 5k pace
    Fri 5m recovery
    Sat 6m recovery

    Next week I taper back to 34m. After DCM i'm gonna rest for a few weeks & think about what to do next. I like the structure of following a training plan, so might look at a 10K plan and target some races early next year.

    It depends on the time of year, at the minute in (Winter/XC), about 50mpw, and typical week is:

    Sun 70-90mins easy
    Mon 50mins
    Tue -Session, likes of 5/4/3/3/2/1 mins etc etc
    Wed 40mins
    Thur - Session
    Fri - 40mins
    Sat - Rest or tempo (depending on if I'm racing)

    During the summer, I usually do sessions and long runs on the same days, except the sessions are wayy shorter, and much quicker, likes of 10x400m etc, and the long runs are shorter. My average summer mpw was only about 30 this yr summer, which for next summer I'd like to bump that up abit!

    I followed exactly that P&D plan for Berlin as well, not running in DCM so I'm just following their five week recovery plan at the moment which eases you back to ~40m/week. Don't plan to go much beyond that 'til starting training all over again the London marathon next Jan.

    I've completed a 5km, 5mile and 10km and in training for the half marathon in December.

    I'll be doing 5+miles twice this week and going to up it as the weeks draw closer to the half marathon.

    I probably won't get as good a time as I'd like but I'll be putting my first half marathon down to experience and hope to do many more.
