Gun Club Advantages?

Hi guys, this may be a daft question but is there any advantage to someone joining a local gun club if they have their own insurance and a few permissions? I have 2 guns obtained through permission as reason for having them, I have never been in a gun club and dont know anyone who is. How does a gun club work, do you pay your fee and thats it or is their work to be carried out, is their meetings if so how often and what is discussed at them? What is expected of a member?

There are advantages to being a member of a gun club, but it is not a requirement. I got my first guns on my own insurance on my own permissions as there wasn't a gunclub near me.

Some advantages would be the other members. Going out shooting with a few lads, and if you are new enough to shooting learning from them. You also have access to much more in term of lands. As a club you are stronger than an individual. So some farmers may be more inclined to allow members of a club rather than a single person have the sporting rights, although thats by no means always the case. You can also make use of the breeding programmes most clubs run.

In terms of what is required by members. Well all clubs have a chairman, secretary, treasurer, saftey officer, game officer, etc. These are members that have volunteered to perform these duties. Members do not have to do anything, but most clubs wouls like to have members that are active, and want to develop the club rather than turn up, and shoot.

We always collected our fees mid year and had them sent of before the 1st. We hold a couple of meetings throughout the year with a big pre-season meeting to cover club rules on bag size, lands, safety, etc, etc. We also hold events throughout the off season such as clay shoots, sports nights, fund raising, etc. not to mention a small social do at christmas for members and partners. The metings usually cover how the fees are spent, what the club has achieved in the last year, what we plan to do, buy, new land gained, voting new committee members, new members, things like that.

Its a personal choice. As was said already you don't need to be in a gun club, but it doesn't hurt.

As above I started shooting without ever getting involved in the gun club scene, however I am a member of a few gun clubs and find the craic and the lads good. They are all NARGC affiliated and between clay pigeon shooting and subsidies available to the clubs for pheasants and vermin and membership of the fund I have no complaints. Clubs are only as good as their members and their committee. If you join a club be prepared to do a bit.:)

That depends on the club. nargc insurance is €50, and the club will add their annual membership fee onto that. The membership fee varies from club to club

Our membership is €30 + fund so total of €80. I also a member of a club that takes €120 off me and to be honest I get more from the local club. You dont need to spend a fortune to have a good club.

If your gun ever was lifted by an over enthusatic guard while lamping or something or a license refused by a super for no good reason the NARGC would be a great help in putting it right.

My local club charges 65euro for NARGC insurance, something sounds fishy to me if ye are saying that NARGC insurance is only 50euro
