If anyone here has any experience (in a professional capacity) of what dog bites look like could they PM me please? I left my dog in someone else's care for a few days and she came home with 2 massive puncture wounds that were allowed to become infected. My vet is sure she was bitten, so am I.

Would your vet not be considered a professional with that sort of experience? Or are they cagey about getting involved.

It could be difficult to prove unless you have more evidence that the wounds :( have you just 2 punch wounds?or is their evidence of the lower canine penetrating in as well?...if it was a deep bite the lower and upper jaws should have been involved so at least 4 puncture wounds though this can depend on the area the biting dog latched on to.

By not bringing a dog under your care for an infected wound would be threading in the animal neglect category and a failure of adequate care (if they were for example boarding your dog)

    Hows you dog doing now?

I'm just looking for a second opinion really, she has bruising and is swollen on the underside of her rib cage, with the puncture wounds on her back, she weighs 6 kilos. She's now on a course of antibiotics and painkillers, is eating (thankfully) and the infection is draining well.

Ooh, nasty situation. I'm so sorry to hear that. Poor baby, and poor you coming home to find her like that! I hope she recovers quickly and easily.

My Flo had a small puncture wound that came from a bite. Have you any pics that you could mail me?

Are there other dogs there that could have bitten her?

Think you mean Tetanus, not Rabies. There is no rabies in Ireland, unless you were in a different country.

Just discussed it with the OH (vet student) sounds like a dog bite alright, but he asked, could the dog could have become wedged under a board with nails jutting out (may explain infection)?

Could you post pics, easier to tell.

The bruising underneath, is it in line with the "bite marks" on top?

I'm certain at this stage that it's a bite, don't really want to post pic's publicly as it's a little bit graphic. The puncture wounds are healing up nicely now though and she's loving the extra attention and of course the wet dog-food she's getting with her meds in. I know accidents can happen, but it's the lies that have me  . . .

She's such a well socialised dog and so much time and effort has gone into it, I hope it doesn't have a negative effect on her attitude towards other dogs.
