Illness Benefit v Disability Benefit

    Hi!

I've been on illness benefit for over three years now since an accident. My job was being held for me but I think it mightn't be for much longer. Once my job is gone, do I have to go on disability benefit? And if so, what way does the means test work? I was given an award in court for future needs (appliances, etc) and so I have a lot of cash but it's to provide for my future. It doesn't seem fair that I might not be entitled to disability benefit and have to use up this money to live on and then when it's gone I have no money for the future appliances and care that I was awarded. Does anyone know what way this works?

I think your mixing the two Benefits up, as Illness Benefit was (previously called Disability Benefit)

If you feel that you might never work again and have enough stamps maybe you could get Invalidity Pension which may also give you extra benefits like the household benefits package.

They are the same scheme.Disability benefit was renamed Illness benefit a few years ago.Maybe you were told to go on Disability Allowance,I think Social welfare get people to change to this now as its more of a long term scheme.

yes, you're right, I'm on illness benefit now and I'm concerned that if I lose my job I might have to go on disability allowance which is means tested, and if so I may not get it because of my provision for future allowances.

Invalidity is curently 193 euro 50 cents a week and IS NOT MEANS TESTED

If you are on this, then you can also get household benefits package and possibly a fuel allowance too.

UIf you have a mental or physical injury that causes you a loss of normal life, then you can apply for a dissablement pension ranging from 20% up to 100% loss of faculty.

A dissablement of 20% is around 45 euro extra a week.
