Request to leave this in AH please as would most likely get a better response and faster. thanks mods ¬

ok so heres the scenario fellow peeps.

last week got employed in Penneys in dublin City.

which means buying a bus ticket every week and leaving the motor vehicle at home.
i only ever use the bus for getting in and out of town to and from work (twice a day) a couple of days a week.

so at the moment im working away in penneys also at €9.40 ph and a contract that ends on the 7th of jan.

since start and next week im working about 24 to 28 hours a week. and more coming up to the busy times.

today i got a call of a job offer from Smyths in Liffey Valley , more or less the same deal , temp until January.

to work there i would gladly use my own car instead of bus (much prefer to do this to be honest)

but i was not told rate of pay or how many hours a week i would get (would gladly work anytime)

    any ideas lads ?

would take it if the pay was better and i was promise the same or more hours.

to be honest i would rather work there than fold women clothes and match up shoes all day.
was really awkward today when someone asked me about bras and crap. (she was horrible)

so anyone know rate of pay and hours and what happens after christmas ?

should i go for it ?

Why dis you not ask the level of pay and hours?? Seems it should be the first question?

To answer your question, do what makes you happy

Depends on where you see yourself in five years time.

I mean logistically they're both viable but if you put in a bit of blue-sky thinking and consider your situation going forward vis-a-vis the current economic climate going forward you might need to touch base with a few colleagues that have relevant experience and a noteworthy base of knowledge and get revert back to them numerous times before making a final decision in such matters before confirming either a positive or a negatory response...... going forward.

    .......what was the question again?

Would rate of pay and hours worked not of been the first question you asked when they offered you the job?

If the its more or same hours i say take it, if it less hours all depends by how much.

for some reason i never ask this... they usually just tell me.... its like the list of things you dont say in an interview "whats the pay ?"

cos im seeing it from their side that they can get anyone for the job that will just take it without hassle type thing.

    .......what was the question again?

i'd say both companies are equally struggling with the rest ?

i dont see either smyths or penneys are going bust any time soon.

would there be a better chance for development in smyths internally rather than penneys ?

    thats the thing,

im on a 8 hour contract at the moment (but at the moment they give me more. that could always change)

and i dont know what they would give me for the moment either, rate of pay wouldnt be too much different i reckon.

Yeh I get ya that a tough one, but I know you live close by to liffey valley from crossing your path before on here;) so that would be handier and save you having to get and pay for the bus in and out of town.

Plus one would imagine coming up to christmas youd get more hours in Smyths than Penneys but thats just going on logic I could be wrong.

Stick with Penneys, the wimminz asking about bras might get fitter.

You should have asked the person you were talking to in smyth's these questions.

It's fairly simple which shop do you want to work in?

i would much rather work in the toy store by miles

but at the same time have to think past christmas too with monies and all... i want to know who would be a better option with the likelyhood of keeping me on type thing ?

Seriously? The worse option in that case is the one that you don't like for a couple of reasons, no matter how you try to hide it, that fact will come across to others & that will be the kiss of death for you in January.

Still, though, if you can look beyond such practical matters for a moment, one job offers much greater likelihood of you being asked which bra suits the hottie betters.

I'd stay with Pennys unless its the one on O'Connell street, the manager in there is a ****ing wanker. Plus i think long term you'd have a better chance of holding onto the job with pennys as they are busy all year really..

Dear God this phrase actually sucks the will to live from me -this is Ireland, not an episode of Good Morning America!

Smyths will get quiet after Christmas so they will not keep you on.
Penneys will always be busy and you have a better chance of staying on.
I would choose Penneys, better chance of promotion etc.

I'm not sure if its the same manager there as when i did work for them a while back, but he was one of the biggest c.nts i have ever met in my life. I have worked for many differant companys over the years and didn't meet one like him..

I'd say Pennys might have more for you long term though, women are always buying ****e in that place..

And in the summer, the boxes for those paddling pools have pictures of women in bikinis on them. ;) And some kids in swimsuits too but you can put a price sticker over that.

Sorry mate but all the jobs are gone i think. and its easy to get in as long as you have a good c.v and at least SOME experience. I was offered the job straight away after my interview cause i was just my self and was eagar to work. The main thing is to hand in your c.v as early as you can for christmas work. I handed in mine at the end of september.
