Knock from front passenger side of car

First off, apologies for the vagueness here, but I hear quite a distinctive knocking noise when I have the steering wheel turned full lock to the left. Like a thudding, or some sort of resistance to the steering. Don't feel any excess vibrations in the wheel. Any ideas as to the cause?
