    No mention of service history?

regardless of the value etc, get a proper mechanics check done it before you even consider buying it.

as you say you havent a clue about cars, get someone who knows about them to look at it with/for you

+1, it's really impossible to tell just from looking at a dealers ad. Whatever you do, don't buy without examining the service history and (if that checks out) having a mechanic give it the once-over.

I have a citroen c3. Hasn't given me an ounce of trouble....until two weeks ago. Citroen is overly reliant on a bsi unit (fusebox in the glovebox). Mine has conked out and it'll cost circa 400e to fix. Like the previous post, get it checked out. Maybe get it down to a citroen dealer who will connect the car to a diagnostics computer. You will find out if any electrics in the car is off kilter...

You are crazy to buy anything on a dark wet night, darkness and rain drops on a car finish hides a multitude. Ie crash repairs etc.

I hope the viewing is indoors, and dry. Buying a car in the dark on a wet night is a really bad idea. The paint and bodywork could be awful, and you might not be able to even see it.

    Best of luck.

I wouldn't hold much hope, there's no images of a show room on their website, just loads of pics in a nice silvan setting, and the address could hardly be more vague "Sandyford/Rathfarnham"

OP, don't buy without you (not the dealer) getting a HPI check done to make sure there's no debt's outstanding against the car.

If reliability is your main concern then Citroen wouldn't be the best choice in my opinion. Something like a 2004/2005 Toyota Corolla would be within budget and a better car.

As for actually buying a car, it really is essential if you are not sure about cars to have somebody who knows what they are talking about when you go to view any car. Make sure you check the history of it and it's service history too.

Lastly never go to view a car in the dark or if it's raining or both, many nasty surprises can be easily hidden.

Strongly thinking of buying this car, going to view at 8 this evening....
You reckon it's a good buy???
All opinions welcome, haven't a clue about cars and am a single mum to two kids so want a good reliable one that i'll get a good few yeas out of.

    Thanks everyone :)

I'm biased because I learned to drive in a car of similar vintage. The instructor traded it in for a new one partly because the rice was fantastic and partly because e ad so little trouble with it despite very high mileage, stop start city traffic and abuse from idiots like me. I found it very comfortable inside (6'5" and too many stones to count) and still miss the quirky steering wheel.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

There is no address, there doesn't seem to be a premises, the only contact number is a mobile number, the opening hours are 9AM-9PM 7 days a week and the only email address is a personal one

Methinks Robert is a sole trader and his business name is swiftcarsales. Nothing wrong with this, but as the others said, tread carefully

I've looked at cars with Swift before. He operates over the phone and will meet you somewhere nearby with the car. Sound lad and the documents checked out but as someone who prefers the relative security of buying from a dealer I went elsewhere. Dedinately do not buy this without an expert opinion.

Thanks everyone. Well I rang my dad to come view it with me, he was worried about the vague address also and then I had to view the car at a completely different address, he has it advertised on two different websites, one with 49kmls and one with 65kmls!!
Didn't buy it anyway, as clueless as I am about the mechanics of cars, I knew the engine sounded off.
I love the c4s so will continue with my search.

    Thanks :)

If you do any mileage at at all look for a HDI. Personally I wouldn't touch a Citroen with a bargepole after I had some very lovely experiences with one of their magnificent products a few years ago.
