HTC Desire (System Data usage)

Hello people who are more geeky than I,

I just installed the DiskUsage app to see exactly what is using up space in the phone's internal memory and found something unusual.

There is 147mb available, 57mb used by applications, 20mb free and a massive 70mb used by 'System Data'.

It's bad enough that the OS uses up most of the 512mb of space leaving just 147mb free for apps, but this 70mb for system data is really making it hard to install more than a few apps (everything that can go to SD card has been moved there, included cache's).

I've seen a lot of other posts where people were stating that System Data was using 20-30mb on their phone, so I'm wondering why its so high for me.

So, does anyone know if it is possible to reduce the space used for 'System Data' or what exactly this is even?

I had similar issues with my Desire towards the end (before I upgraded).

I'm going to take a guess that it's down to the age of the phone, by which I mean that while it was one of the first main/popular Android phones, it's out a good while (in phone terms now) and has had it's day as apps now are written with newer handsets in mind that don't suffer these limits.

It's the phone equivalent of using Windows 2000/XP in a Windows 7 world. Sure most things will work, but it's being rapidly left behind as developers move on to the "latest and greatest" and as a result these apps take up more and more space/resources as they update.

I stand to be corrected though?
