As per title, there is going to be a nationwide recall of the 5th edition (October 2011) driver theory test CD-ROM.

I got the CD in the post this morning (after ordering it on their website) and quickly discovered it to be faulty. I rang their support line and they confirmed it is not an isolated issue and they will be recalling every CD across the country - SO DON'T buy a CD if you see it in Easons etc today.

They gave me two options while on the phone; They would send out a *free 5th edition book or I could wait until they get the new batch of CDS in and then send it out to me.

    * Not sure what they meant by that exactly, i.e Would they refund me for the CD AND send me out a free book or refund me the difference in the costs? I decided to wait for the new CD as I already have the book.

For those interested in the fault; on the disc itself is three files: One large .ISO file and 2 x .MD5 files. They are contained in a 'Master 1' folder. Now, having a bit of experience with this, I tried to burn the ISO file onto a blank CD and it initially appeared to work. I re-inserted the CD after burning and it auto-played recognizing it as the driving learner CD. However, once you get into the install process, it identifies the CD as counterfeit and will not allow you to continue the install process...

So we are stuck waiting for the new CD.... Think I will cancel my test for a few weeks as I find the new book to be laid out horribly to be honest.

Just wondering is the questions in the new book much different from the 4th edition book or would you be able to pass using the old book and cd? The new test comes into affect next monday so i don't know if i should bother getting the new cd if its just gonna be basically the same thing...

Yeah, I was just trying to book a test for before the change. Only found out yesterday. Arsing around for months. Know the fourth edition well, wonder can there be much difference? They havent changed the rules of the road as far as I know.

Got a working CD in the post about a week after posting this...

Well they didn't do a very good recall, they have my address but I didn't hear anything from them.

My test is on Tues the 4th and I just went to use the cd this evening to, you know... run a few practise tests... So I only found out now.
At least I found an explanation after trying to do all sorts to get mine to work. Almost got there when the .exe showed up when mounted on a virtual drive and then it told me it was counterfeit!!

Will be making an angry phonecall tomorrow but too late to get a cd that works unfortunately.

In the UK you can just go to a website and begin a mock theory test in a nano second, for free, of course. *Shakes fist at the greedy RSA*

I bought a disc (and book) a few weeks ago (for my C test) and it works fine?!

Well the guy on the 1890 number wasn't so helpful and basically refused to believe it was from the recall group, but the email address from the case to imagitech connected me to someone who actually had some useful info for me.

Apparently if you get the 5th edition cd rom, make sure that in the lower right hand corner there is a number. Think they are on number 3 now. If there is no number present, then it is the first pressing and it is faulty.
Guess which category mine fell in to

So he said he sympathised with me and would send me a new one only for the fact it won't be of any use to me now (assuming I pass).

Anyway, just posting this in case it helps anyone else.
