Servicing and Timing Belt for a VW Bora

    Hi all,

I have a 2004 1.4 petrol VW Bora and it's due for a service soon. Another thing to point out that the timing belt is now due, as the car has done 100,000kms.

Can anyone recommend a good indy garage that can do the servicing and the timing belt at a reasonable price?

I also need new tyres soon all round so if anyone can recommend a good garage that would be great. I'm currently using continentals "contipremiumcontact 2" with about 45,000km on them - size 195 / 65 / 15

I'm based in the North Dublin area but most areas will be considered reasonably.

    Thanks.

    G.

Petrol or diesel? The timing belt is due a change on the TDi every 60k miles or 5 years, which ever comes first. I think the petrol engines have similar intervals.

Given that your car is nearly 8 years old and I presume still has it's original belt, I would get it done as soon as possible as the belt is only made of rubber which perishes over time irrespective of mileage.

It'd be a good idea to replace the water pump and t/belt tensioners at the same time.

Yep my 06 2L TDI Passat needs a service, timing belt (probably) and 4 tyres for the winter... plus theres a 99 1.9 TDI Passat that needs an oil change as well.

I never get a proper answer to this but is there anywhere worth taking it to down here (Dublin/Meath/Cavan/Louth) that won't cost me a fortune, or would I be just better going up north to the dealer (with service prices starting at £129 these days)

1.4 petrol. Just edited my op. It's the original belt on it. I've had the car since 2005 but only in the last 2 years i've started to rack up the mileage on it.

Then get it changed as a matter of piority. If it snaps your more than likely looking at an engine rebuild or replacement.

Cheers bazz26. Yep i know that it's a major priority. Just looking for the most cost effective way to get it done.

As a referance, we'd normally charge €350 for a full timing belt kit and water pump change on a vag 1.4 and €400 on the 1.9/2.0 tdi B6 passats.
