have an acer aspier which went nuts this weekend. screen saver went nuts so when i re started it, it says windows didnt initiate or something to that effect. tried to restart from the last good boot option and now i think its dead. when i turn it on the power lights up but nothing else happens complete black screen. should i try to get it repaired or will it be more practical to buy a new laptop.

Would not buy new one just yet, have you tried booting in safe mode.
If you add a little more information I could give you a better response, What is your operating system, have you added any new software or hardware.

I was thinking of buying a acer but have been told that they have reliability issues, I know yours is after going belly up, but how did you find it, good or bad plus how long have you had it?thanks

rothai, i personally wouldnt get one again. this is the second crash i've had with it, i managed to fix it last time. the drivers for my usb ports stopped working. in saying that i know people who have no issues with theirs at all.

I would nuke it and reinstall windows. make sure you have the recovery partition (D:\) or the DVDs first.

If that doesn't do it then it's not worth investing more money into the problem: junk it and buy something new. Some places will offer to diagnose and repair your old one for free if you're buying a new one though so thats worth looking into too.
